Closet grow question

hi im gonna my to grow in a small closet it's about 2ft x 4.5ft and 8ft high. My question is what kind of light would work good for that space? I can run exhaust easily.. Was planning on getting a 600 with a cool tube.. Any suggestions? I don't mind spending a little $ on fans and things if it will make the grow better

maybe a 400 W instead of 600, 400W covers about 9 sq feet pretty perfectly, save your money on the wattages a bit and get more exhaust to cool it down a bit cuz it's in a closet... good choice with the cool tube though.
The setup your talking would work though just fine maybe 400 W would be easier to keep the eat down even with the cool tube because you are in a closet.

I would go with the 600. a inline fan pushing 400+ cfm should have no problem keeping your light cool. run another fan inside your room but don't blow directly on the plants because that usually fucks the leaves up a bit. The more light the better IMO

Thanks for the replys I was leaning towards 600.. Now to look for fans. So another quick questions.. Would my fan be before or after the light? As in pushing or pulling the heat? Would a good setup be... Carbon filter to fan to light to ducting out the room? Thanks

depends on the kinda fan you get and what kinda space you have

It`s pretty normal to go filter/fan/ cool tube, but some people put the fan and the filter outside of the grow to get more space so then you go cool tube/ fan/ filter

but carbon filters normally work better when there being sucked on.......... kinda like me lol

^This guy knows what he's talking about better than me lol, trust him. Nobody had replied to you so I thought I'd throw something in to at least bump it for ya. Gotta get those trees out there lol!

Again, trust that guy when he responds again better, but I do know that a little bit of fan on your plants is good. You don't want zero breeze on your plants. You want some breeze in there. But I think the setup you have will keep it cool.
Also i'd think that "pulling" (ie exauhsting) the heat from your cool tube is best than pushing it... if not both. Pushing it doesn't necessarily get it out of the grow area, it would help, but not as much.

The problem with putting a fan on the end is your making a vacuum most flexi ducting that we all use can develop weak spots and tried to collapse

So I find most flexi ducting will give you more flow if your fan is blowing down it, but then you have to clap it on tight from the fan onwards as a good fan`s pressure will be trying to pop your duct off your cool tubes

Plus with blowing if your ducting fucks up you normally end up with the fan and filter in the room still scrubbing the smell, when you set the fan at the end if the ducting or connections fail you end up with zero filtering and no air movement so you run a risk of killing plants and getting busted so you have to pay more attention to the upkeep of the ducting, plus its easier to find a leak when the fans are blowing

Just my experience with ducting and fans, I find its better to fill a pipe then to try sucking on it

Either way with a 2x4.5 ft. closet it's gonna be real tight with a cool tube most are 26 inches long.Even tighter if you house your ventilation in there.

I push my air but I also dont run a scrubber so I have no experience with the setup of that. Konass has sound reasoning on pushing.

my reasoning is when you set a fan in the window of a hot room n try to pull the hot air out it pretty much does nothing compaired to blowing the cold outside air in. thats why I push cold air over the hot bulb then out.

really it just comes down to trying differant things untill you feel satisfied. my first grow my hoods were turned the wrong way so my plants on the wall suffered with little light. next grow I turned the hoods and all is good, you just have to run it to figure out the problems you didn't even think about.

looks like you are on the right path though.

The only practical closets are closets that can access venting, like a closet that can vent through the ceiling through the attic etc. To avoid damage to the home intake vents and exhaust vents should lead outside the home through vent tubes. A closet ajacent to the attic can vent through the attic to outside and the closet ceiling can be repaired easily when you're done. Elaborate closet doors should be put away for safe keeping and temporarily replaced by a cheap closet door and use the weather stripping to seal the closet door from light leaks etc and a lock. Put the reflective poly, etc or white corrolite on the walls and something on the floor to protect the flooring from light bleaching from the HID.

I just recently renovated and built an additional closet for a customer, not for growing...not that I was aware of. It turned out really nice.
