cloning san pedro

I have a little san pedro that I want to take some cuts from. She is about 20 inches tall and in a 6 inch square pot. She has lived in a window sill for a while as she seems much happier than under a hps light. I'm moving her to a different window and supplementing with some t5 lighting.

I've read the directions on cloning. Cut a six inch section, let dry for a few days for the wound to scab over, plant section in soil and don't water for about 2 months. Is there anything else I can do to make sure all goes well. I'm not looking forward to chopping her into pieces and really don't want to fuck her up. I also wonder if I should wait til spring or transplant her into a bigger pot first.

Any suggestions would be sweet.

You cannot fuck it up, it's impossible,(unless you spill diesel or something on it.) get quick draining sand, and water after a month, not 2 months, just don't let the soil stay damp around the plant so it can start rotting.

Personally I would cut it up in 3 same size pups. Lay in the shade, forget about it for 2 weeks, plant it on its side or upright doesn't matter, about a inch to 2 inches deep.

Don't feed till you see roots.

Don't shake or move it to see or "feel" if it has roots, your gonna slow things down. It has roots after about 80 days.

Hope this helps.

Saved these from a bloke that put them in like clay or none draining soil, they all root-bound aswell, haven't had the time to put with the rest.

Also, is there any particular rick to getting it to sprout multiple tops? Maybe cut at an angle or right on the spines? I've noticed pics with as many as 3 shoots and some with only one.

they will all start of with a single pup, and then start making a second and a third when it has enough roots to feed more than one growing tip.

My larger pedro's have 5 side branches with 6 growing tips on each of those... get about 14m per year of some of the big guys
