Cloning Question...

I was wondering, for those that have cloned successfully AND unsuccessfully...at what point do you know you have a clone that will make it?

I mean, if they are still alive by day 2 or day 3, is it safe to say they'll mature, given optimal conditions and no mistakes made?

As long as they are standing strait up, not wilting and no discoloring... thats the first sign that you are doing pretty well. But if you are doing it in a dome you just need to make sure to keep it moist in there, 3 to 4 times a day if needed (spraying the inside of the dome). keep it completely closed for the first 3 days... then day 4-6 or so, keep it open 1/4 of the way (there should be those pivoting circles at the top to get air in), and then halfway open after day 7 but just keep spraying. Good luck with it.

Cool man. That's good advice. I didn't even think about opening it a 1/4 of the way after a few days, I was about to leave 'em covered for 2 weeks. I took them extremely small, 2.5 inches. We shall see how it works out. Thanks.

I have had droopy plants make a full recovery, but that's more in medium cloning. Now i use a bubble mist cloner, in that it's either 4days for pre roots (white bumps) or it's mostly over. A good way to check the health is to give the stem a little squeeze. It should be nice and firm. If it's soggy it's past recovery.

You can rescue them if they've started drooping although not if they're too dry. Normally I don't count them as succesful until a root has started to show (I always put mine into rockwool plugs) as they've stayed upright for 7 days + but not rooted before.

Sterilization is the key to regular successful cloning. You didnt really provide allot of info but I only keep my dome on for a week tops. Too long ad too moist = rot or damping off.

I dome my cutting for 5-7 days. Normally they don't need the dome after that. Just watch and see if they start to droop. If they do put the dome back on for a bit longer.

Excellent advice! Going to keep this in my little grow guide I am building for reference later!

I'm on root riot cubes in a heated propogator and as soon as a root shows, it's a safe bet it's gonna make it. Agree with others. Slowly open the vents to acclimatize over a few days while reducing misting. Then take prop lid off during day and put it back at night for a couple of days just to make sure. Am close to 100% success nowadays.I also do a lot of garden plants with this method.
