cloning question

if i throw a half inch of perlite in a cup, cover it with 2 inches of moist spagnum moss, and stuff a cutting in it...

will that perform like the rapid rooting plug

got a bag today - gonna try a few different variations with a sidebyside in rapid rooter, but i'm looking for any info i can go into this with
