Cloning plant for next year outdoor grow

Hey guys had a question. I was wondering if it's possible to take a clone from one of my outdoor plants this season. Keep it indoors under lights in veg till next season.
Sounds like it should be straight forward, but what issues could I run into? A few I can think of, having a giant plant, taking the clone at the right time, as I've heard if you take one when flowering rooting is more difficult. I'd like to clone the best plant but it's hard to tell if it isn't flowering. What else?

Just clone your outdoor plant during veg, bring it in and root it out and plant it. Once it becomes a month old, take more clones from her and then destroy that mother. Keep cloning that same pheno till you're ready to fully flower it out. This takes up less space, and will let you continue the pheno.

PS... don't destroy any mothers until you know your cuttings have taken. You can keep 6-8 clones, and veg them for the month, take your strongest one and clone it again. Repeat till you're ready to finish one.

PSS... taking cuttings from an outdoor plant can be risky with pests. Once your cuttings are strong and rooted, Spray them down with some Cap't Jacks as an IPM so your tent/room stays sterile.

Thanks man! I feel you answered my questions and more. Got a free light from a buddy and thinking of ways to use it. A lot more confident now after reading your posts. Now I got to look for a tent.
