Cloning Outdoors?? HELP!

I was thinking about cloning a few cuttings outdoors soon... I've seen many people say that its reallllly hard to clone outside. I have peat pellets and a tray thats about 6 inches tall with the lid on. Can I do this outside?? I live in Southern California and the weather is fairly nice. No overcast, nothing. Gets to about 75-80 in the day, and about 60 at night. How much sunlight would they need every day? And should i bring them in at night? Will cloning indoors with CFLs be better than trying to use the sun? Im really torn right now between which one is better!:-(

THANKS!
