Cloning. No dome, no rooting hormone just dirt!

Ok so my mother plant is pretty big and needed to be trimmed so I figured I would try some cloning techniques.

The first cut I took was approx 7 inches tall, I removed 2 fan leaves and then placed into a cup of ph'd water (6.2) with a couple of drops of superthrive. It was then dipped in rooting hormone and placed in a jiffy pot filled with seed raising mix. I would normally use rockwool under an 8w fluro with 100% results.

It is now sitting on top of a heat pad and under a 125 watt cfl approx 1 foot away No humidity dome, temp at 79 F and humidity 55%.
I didnt hold high hopes for it as an hour later it was droopy and looking awfully sad but the next day (first pic) it looked fine (well better anyway, not dead lol )

So I decided to take 2 more cuttings, using no superthrive or rooting hormone. The next few pics are of this. They are also sitting on the heat pad and under the 125 watt cfl. We will see if they root.

The rest of the pics are of my perpectual grow. I'm aiming for a pound every 5 weeks. The pics are of the 1st and second 2nd grow in this setup. Looking good but still a lot of refinig to be done.

Have checked on them approx 3-4 hours after cut and they look a little droopy but understandable considering theres too much light and the the humidity is only 55%.

Will post some more pics tomorrow, give them 24 hrs. By the way I have left them on 18/6 the same as the mother so as not to shock them in that respect.

you cant root anything without rooting hormone, but you can keep them alive by spraying them
Simply not true.

How would it ever happen in nature...if it was only possible with rooting hormone?

I have taken a clone as small as the one in your avatar using NO rooting hormones or chemicals at all just...water one night...into dirt the next day...low light with a plastic container for a humidity dome and well that clone is now 12" tall and ready for 12/12 lighting.

it's ghetto...but to me 100% free so I figured "why not?"

I had a fantastic ak48 that grew strong/showed sex fast...as soon as she showed I made 3 VERY small clippings. (I'd go MUCH bigger next time as I had to wait a long time for 2" clipping to turn into a 12" young lady)

Anyways I took these three clippings and diagonally cut the stems and placed into ordinary tap water in a coffee cup. I kept the leaves off the water and the stems fully submerged by wrapping elastic bands vertically around the cup and resting the leaves on top of the bands. Keep the light conditions low. If a window sill use one with weak sunlight...that was for 24 hours.

I use a water spray bottle to spray the leaves occasionally.

Then into dirt (in small 3" clay pots)...pushed a toothpick into the dirt first to make a nice hole for the stem to go into "cleanly" then lightly watered soil.

Used plastic containers from chinese food takeout as domes for each of the three clippings. Used cfl lighting...the dome defracted enough light to keep the light levels ideal. Sprayed the clones...breathed into the dome before replacing as my exhaled breath is benefical to the plants. (CO2 and moisture)

Took like a week...2 wilted...1 made it. I did water the dirt lightly a few times in addition to constant spraying of the leaves. At a cost of pretty much $0...to get a female of my Mommy AK48...well it was a happy moment.

yeah, its totally doable-i have done it couple of times.
Usually I clone just by using pure water and some darker cups.put the water in, then put some plastic bag over the cup, make a small hole, and stick your cutting in.After 3-4 weeks, roots will emerge:):):):hump:.

ok thats koul and everything, but why wait 3-4 weeks, when you could do it in 3-5-7 days

Willow trees? What do they have to do with cloning?:?:
Willow Bark contains chemicals that act as root hormone. I've yet to try it, but plan to. From what I hear, maybe someone knows better: Cut willow branches (pencil size) , chop, fill jar, cover with hot water, let sit over night. To use, strain and discard wood, soak cutting in the solution for a few hrs. -or more- before planting. (I tried honey recently with poor results next to root gel on cuts from Haze/Sk#1.)

I never use hormone, no dome, i don't spray them either. just peat pellets, exposing the phylum, and tap water. 100% strike rate.

it takes about a week or less, depending on strain/ clone size
