Cloning issues..

Good luck sunbiz..
As I noted above, its always produced poor results for me, but then again I've never changed the water since it was just leftover cuttings. So who knows, knock yourself out ;)

So again, does anybody know the exact weight a wet rockwool cube should be? I could've swore I read it on here somewhere.

daily water changes are unnecessary leave them alone in the propagator/dome for the most part
high humidity is all that is needed, an unheated propagator will work fine and is often the safer option

leave a small amount of water in the propagator, just enough to cover the surface of the bottom tray
this will ensure the propagator will keep high humidity all the time, you should see condensation/ water droplets
allover the propagator lid all the time

spay the cuttings with water when you first take them and put them in the dome
keep them in the dome with the slots closed for the first 3-4 days
after 3-4 days of vents closed, open the vents for a few hours each day repeat this process every day until they root
they only need spraying every 4 days or so the high humidity keeps them from wilting
i would replace the water in the bottom tray after 1 week

folk having issues with cloning it could be because they keep them too wet, keep spraying them constantly
or the humidity is too low because they keep opening the dome and fussing over them, changing water daily, lowering the humidity all the time
spraying them with food and or additives , all of this does not help, its best to leave them alone and wait, just be patient and let nature run is course

a heated propagator could help speed up the process a little bit, but its risks burning them/ drying them
heated propagators tend to have low quality thermostats on them, i would avoid them personally
they will root in winter in an unheated dome, the heat from a CFL is enough to warm up the dome

its hard to take cuttings wrong, i think most folk mess up on the looking after them but seem to take the cuttings ok
if cuttings survive the first few days without wilting or dying and a good rooting gel like clonex was used
then there was no problem with how they were taken
personally i like to take cuttings from shoots in the middle of the plant, they are firm not too woody and not too floppy
although if you take very skinny shoots as cuttings they do not survive the best but they will still root as will virtually any part of the plant
as long as the cutting has a firm stem and a little shoot emerging from it somewhere it will root

peace :)

Uh . . . we are talking about a plain old glass of water. Trying to help him do it cheap and right. Water glass cloning is a time proven method. You just have to be smarter than the plant or the glass to accomplish it.

Yes, we were talking about a cup of water when we referred to changing it daily lol.. But thanks for all the good info. Its always nice to hear other growers methodology.

As for cloning in a cup of water, ill say it again: it doesn't work very well at all. It takes 2-3x longer to see any roots, and when you do there's only a couple and they're extremely thin. I've gone weeks without seeing roots pop on my extra clones that ive left in cups before.

PS. Its not too cold in the room I put the clones, probably around the 60s. But I'm just guessing because I don't trust the thermometer I have in there so I didn't bother to look.

PPS. When I use my aeroponic cloner, they root fine.. so that eliminates temp being the issue I suppose. Also the aero cloner doesn't have a dome, so that eliminates humidity being a problem too ;) I just don't want to use it because it leaks, and I always end up putting them in cubes carefully anyway. So I'm trying to just root directly in cubes. Dunno wtf is wrong.
Get a heat mat and syran wrap.....60 is too cold for quick good cutting rooting. period.
I've cut 100's of clones with about 5 failures...again...poor choice in cutting.
Younger seems better. tender

It works great. Yes it does take longer. However the cost is acceptable and is a tradeoff. Those who do not change the water regularly will see little success while those who change it daily will generally see 8 of 10 root easily and within 10-14 days. Some strains take 3 weeks. Beats a crappy designed aerocloner any day and I have used both.

your got to differt envirments first if in the 60s its to cold plant rooting likehigh 70s low 80s heating pad and dome is a must onless you use you cloner then that a different envirment fix the leak silcon it

I agree. Dixie cup, perlite, cutting, old school, not as old school as hot rods idea, but simple, cheap, easy, proven.

use the dome and heat mat as suggested. check it every 4-5 days. thats how i get down :bigjoint:and every dome in that pic will root at different times...the OG takes a month the sour patch takes 10-14 days.

temp and humidiy are really the only things fucking you up.

Ive taken clones from a plant i found in the woods. Carried a cutting for about a half hour out of the woods and stuck it in a pot of dirt under a cfl and it rooted and produced for me.

The main thing is to make it almost 100% humidity. Get a nursery flat (tray) and dome and fill the bottom with about 1-2 inches of perlite.

Soak that with about 4-8 cups of water doesnt have to be ph'd or anything as long as its not abnormally high or low.

And place the clones into the dome under a cfl or 2 on 16-20 hours on and wait about 5 days to a week for first signs of roots.

After the first signs open the flaps on top of the dome to let the air exchange since your clones will be breathing more since they have roots.

2-5 more days later and they should be ready to plant.

Only other thing i could suggest is doing less things while cloning.

Clip, dip, stick. Thats all i do and thats all that needs to be done. Ive tried cutting on the 45 degree angle as well as cutting dipping in water then cutting again then dipping in root gel then sticking in a rooter. I even tried splitting the stem in half a little to increaase surface area for roots to appear and none have been more successful than simple CUT, DIP, STICK.

Best of luck to you! And may i recommend using rapid rooters. Theyre a jet puffed medium almost like a dirt twinkie haha. They have alot more contact with the cuttings stem and ive had amazing results with them.
You don't use the slots? You just out them in tray with perlite and water?

Fix the leak???
