Cloning in SOIL

Hey guys,

Im cloning from a 2 week flowering mother plant. I've used soil instead of grow medium and have dipped the clones into rooting formula prior to potting.

15 days later and im quite certain the clones have rooted. Problem is as follows:

Problem 1. Since i use a humidity dome, I've been having issues with fungus or algae (green slime) growing on the soil.

Problem 2. Since the roots are newly forming, the soil stays damp. Thats making problem 1 alot worse. It could also lead to root rot and wilting of the clone which is happening already.

Obviously the soil isnt going to dry on its own or atleast until the clones have grown solid roots.

Ive been watering every x5 days.

Any ideas how to solve this issue would be much appreciated!

This is how I do it. This was my last attempt at using rockwool. My clones in peat pellets do a lot better. I put about 2" of perilite in the bottom of the tray . Set the peat pellets right on top. I'm pitching these 2 clones in rockwool now. The perilite keeps them out of the water but let's them feed.

Perilite always turns green but will rinse clean. I just throw it in the compost when I'm done and use new for each batch of clones.

Take the cover off and let them breath. I use to clone in soil as well. What I would do is start taking the humidity cover off after a few days for about 15 minutes. Each day you increase the time by about 5 minutes until after a week they won't need the dome anymore. Had great success and they seemed to root better getting fresh air. Give it a try. You won't run into mildew or fungus problems anymore. Just keep an eye on them, if they start to wilt over put the humidity cover back on them for the day. Easy Peasy.

Screw the dome totally. Let the remaining leaves look raggedy . Once well rooted they'll be gone anyway. Let the soil dry. Dry. The clone won't die. Then water enough it reaches the bottoms. Repeat.
If you totally remove the dome, make sure there isnt alot of airflow right away until they root
