Cloning in an Aerogarden

Has anyone had much luck in cloning with Aerogarden's pods/sponges?

I've been using Rootech cloning gel and it hasn't been working out. The first attempt involved putting the clone straight into the unit. The clone died, and on my second try I put the clone in a sort of humidity dome type deal. The clone lived much longer, but when I checked for roots a good six days in, nothing had developed.

Am I not waiting enough time? Are the pods too wet for developing clones?
Could it be the cloning gel I've been trying?

Any feedback would be really appreciated guys.

Sky: I've cloned in my Aerogardens but it was much more work than it was worth for a couple of reasons. First you have only seven holes to work with and I've found A/G's grow pods difficult to work with when it comes to poking in cuttings. Don't get me wrong, they're great for growing seeds but I've found them difficult to use for cloning. And nothing else seems to fit in the A/G's holes.

You can get a cloning machine but they go for $100 on up, an up and up. There's an inexpensive alternative available at almost any hydro store. You'll need a 10" by 20" black plastic starter tray about 3" deep, $2. There seems to be some controversy as to whether you'll need a secondary screened bottom plastic tray that sits inside the first tray, but in any case they're only a couple of bucks each.

1 1/4" to 1 3/4" plastic wrapped rock wool cubes are easy to work with and you can either put them directly into the tray or use a molded plastic an insert designed to fit in the tray that accommodates fifty clones.

I like rooting jel compared to the powders I've used. Just remember to keep the cubes damp but not wet. Put on a humidity dome, $6 to $7, over your cuttings to keep them from drying out and don't forget to foliar feed them a couple of times a day with a diluted mix of nutes from a spray bottle until they've rooted. With this set up you can expect about 75% to 80% success rate in about ten days. If they haven't rooted within ten days I toss 'em into the composter to keep my worms happy. Whether you choose to use a heating pad under your tray depends on where you live and the ambient temperature of your grow room. I hope this helps. HSA

I plan on useing the AG for my clones as well, but only the rez. Im useing a separate bubbler, And plan on just putting it under 150w hps in the veg room for aprx 14days, but now im not so sure, not enough positive feed back or info. Maybe ill try/test it then make a lil thread about what I've learned. I started in this areo garden. Seed to flower. Lol.
