Cloning an auto for colloidal silver treatment

I have a couple of fem auto seeds I want to experiment with. The strains are critical and black jack. I want to take a clone of each and colloidal silver them to pollinate a branch on the mother. Maybe 2 branches, pollen from each strain... lol

I know the clones are on the the same timeline as the mother, but they only need to be small so I can treat them with cs, grab the pollen and can them. Anyone tried this before? I have read a few conflicting things in regards to cloning and cs'ing autos.

If the clones fail, I'll still try cs on the mother but I want to try avoid that as I'll be chowing down the final product and hopefully getting a few beans in the process. I'd much rather take the clone so I know I can treat it well away from the final product cause damn, last thing I wanna be doing is smokin' remnants of that shit :bigjoint:

I'd start spraying the clone as soon as you get roots forming, to increase the chance of pollen sacs being mature by the time your mother plant is putting out a ton of pistils. ALso, consider giving the mother plant lots of nitrogen, to push back flowering a little bit.

If you need to spray the plant you are going to consume, just spray one branch, and be careful with overspray (it's much easier if you LST that branch to grow horizontally). Only the flowers on that branch will be pollen sacs, which you can use to pollinate the other female flowers on the rest of the plant. If you use a good, stable strain, you should have no problem with this. It's when you use a strain that has potential to hermie, that it compounds the risk since the same plant is acting as both parents.

I thought that u cant clone autos

Awesome post, thanks Hazy! I'm not too stressed about hermies. TBH the bud will probably blow away 99% of the stuff I get here anyway. I sort of don't care if it turns out that the seeds end up in the bin, the journey itself will be much more rewarding :bigjoint:

Not sure mate, but I have heard that. I think I have also read that cs doesn't work on some strains or types of autos. Not sure. Info is a tad sketchy. Either way, I'm about to find out! I have never even grown an auto before (AFAIK) hence the thread :bigjoint:

I believe autos can't be cloned m8. But good luck at killing those cuttings and stressing the autos out

Ha! I don't give two hoots mate about stressing the plant or killing cuttings. The desired outcome of this is to preserve the genetics that I may never have access to again.

Not a bad idea at all. Should be a good way to get a few seeds to preserve it and still be able to grow the plant out. It shouldn't stress it too much clipping one branch off. I'd LST to get a bunch of branching going and clip one off.

Autos aren't always as sensitive as people make it. Some can even be topped with success.

I'd just spray the lower branches of the mother. I'm pollinating the first 3 nodes as soon as they are large enough. The pollen is photo period, so I'll have to back cross for recessive traits.

I've topped my autos with great success, and at the end of the day topping is nothing more than taking a cutting from the plant. If you could clone the top you cut off you might be in business, man. You'll have a healthy mother and a banger of a clone.

No problem man.

Also, you can clone auto's, but it isn't generally useful in terms of increasing yield. In fact, it can very well be counter productive, because the clone will flower on the same schedule as the parent, despite not having had enough time to veg.

My experience with breeding auto's is start one plant and grow for about 4 or 5 weeks pistols will start showing, start spaying colloidal silver on one or two bottom branches, start a second plant at that time. Because what is going to happen is by the time the colloidal silver treated branches have pollinating male sacs the first plant will be ready to harvest and not have seeds. Use the treated branches to pollinate as many branches on the second plant that you want. I let the treated branches dry for a few days then tap them on the branches I want to pollinate. At harvest you've got seeds!

What's up outlier. I am growing 2 black jack auto from sweet seeds at the moment. One is 2 weeks behind. I am spraying one with CS and taking that pollen to make seeds with the other black jack. It's been about 12 days with the CS and she he starting to turn into a he. This is my first shot at this so I hope all goes well. I'm gonna save some pollen and hit a photoperiod strain also in the future. All this is a test. Good luck to your quest.

well from what I have seen, you have to have your timing right on the plant you are going to pollinate or you will wind up with seeds that are not mature.
It is good to tinker around and experiment with different things and different ways, like the cloning.
That's how we learn
