Cloning advice

Just wondered what you've found to be the most effective way of cloning your plants? I've done it before with other kinds of plants quite successfully and all I've ever done is to place the cut stem into a glass of water on my kitchen windowsill until it roots and then planted it out. I want to take a bit more care with my girls though!

So what hormone would you recommend? Do you use those cubes? If so, what type?

Would something like this be any good or would I be better off buying individually to make sure I have the best of what I need?

Thanks in advance :peace:

I just use a cheep $5 propagation tray w dome, like the one in your link

Have 90-100% success rate, depending on the strain (some obviously clone easier).

I just take a cutting, dip in rooting hormone, pop into rapid rooter, and throw that in the tray w dome and spray w water. I keep the vents closed for 3-5 days, then Open the vents. Take the dome off 3-5 days later and at the end of 1-2 weeks you have clones ready for veg

I use whatever container I have and jiffy pellets.

Step one: cut branch the size of the cut you want

Step two: place cut into jiffy pellet.

Step 3: place jiffy pellet in a tiny bit of water under lights.

Done.

I've heard Rapid Rooters, Eazy Plus (or any starter plugs for that matter) help a lot.

I used to use rapid rooters and use rockwool now because its cheaper. Both work great. I used to use clonex but this last time used aloe vera and everything worked great. I soak the rockwool/rooters in water with a little bit of clone/rooting solution.

I keep under 24 light and on a heat mat if needed, remove dome twice a day for air exchange and mist the clones and the dome. Usually see roots in about a week. You periodically may need to moisten the rapid rooters or rockwool. But not too moist.

Seems painless enough, thanks for sharing :bigjoint:

Thanks everyone, seems simple enough, I just wanted to make sure I've got the right idea before I give it a try! :peace:

I have used air bubblers in an aluminium roasting tray. I started out with little holes poked in the lid, but as the roots grew, I worried about getting them through the hole. So I used upside down Styrofoam cups cut down to a couple of inches. They floated around in the tray, but kept themselves upright. When the roots were ready, I just broke the cups apart.

I have the parts to make a cloner out of a five gallon bucket, but haven't got around to cutting the holes in the lid yet. It's a submerged fountain pump with a 360 degree sprinkler head. You put it on a timer and let it run 30 minutes off and 30 minutes on. Here is the video where I saw one like it.

Now that does look like fun! I'll have to look into that, cheers :peace:

I hear aloe vera is great for cloning. Cut off some of your aloe vera plant and dip the end of your clone into the gel then plant it in your medium.
It does. I no longer need spend $25 for a little jar of clonex. Aloe truly is an amazing plant.
