Clone Problems

Anyone know why clones would not grow roots?
the clones are 2 weeks old
they were dipped in clonex
and stuck in rockwool ph'd to 5.5
they are in a humidity dome with pearlite
and a seedling heating mat under it
the leaves are fine
inside the rockwool there is little to no sign of root development
the cutting site is blackish in color
the stem is yellowed about half an inch up
i will post picks when i leave work

My question would be where did you take te clones from in terms of top, middle, or bottom of a mother?

Have you been watering them with water ph'd to 5.5 since you took the cuttings, that was my problem when I first started cloning.

Firstly get rid of those 2 week old clones and start over.First make sure the bottom of prop only gets warm to the touch and not hot. Hot bottom of prop means not a one will survive but 5.5 soaking cubes is correct. It takes 4 days of veg with prop lid on ..... remove daily starting on day 2 for 5 minutes then day 3 for 10 min and day 4 for 30 min.On day 5 completely remove prop lid and keep it off 24 hrs a day (this will force rooting of clones if they have not already started rooting). Also on day 5 (when u take lid off prop for good) water clones with 5.8 ph'ed solution with a ec of 3-4 ppm and use a large eye dropper or something similar and water every 2 days till roots appear. This is a method that is gonna work at a 90 + % live rate guaranteed. Good Luck

I just got an aero cloner (daisy) and took some bottom cuttings off my white berry mom. They've been in there now for 10 days and are just starting to show the bumps on the bottom of the stem. Im not sure why its taking this long to root, I always understood bottom cuttings will root better than top ones. I was using clonex but I'll be using earth juice rootstock gel, all organic, for my cuttings from now on. My first few attempts at using oasis wedges werent that great but so far neither is the daisy cloner.

I use a clean razor blade and cut a few light slashes up the stem to give the clone additional areas to grow roots from. I've had better luck with mine since I started that.

havent cloned in quite awhile but when i did all i did was cut clone, immediately scraped the bottom about an inch or so dipped it in roottone and into the soil and never had any trouble

sounds like air's got into ur stem one of 2 things
#1 recut above damaged or affected area
(anything yellow or black has to be removed including leaves, Do not remove whole leaves unless over 50% damaged)
#2 start again
sounds cruel but sometimes its best to cut ur losses as slow & lagging clones tend to never grow out of that trait
" at 1st my clone success rate was around 30% which was very poor so i took a wk out read & sourced every bit of infomation i could on rooting (like a crazed info whore) lol and so far my success rate stand's at 98/100 % & thats with no heating mat's no fancy cloner's or nutes/fertz, " there is no real victory with out struggle"

what i do is... once i take my cutting, i immediatly submerge the stem in a bowl of water. while the stem is submerged i cut the bottom part off at a 45 degree angle. this should help in preventing any air bubbles from getting trapped in there. then i take it out and scrape the bottom 1/2" to 1" with a sterile blade, and dip into Olivia's cloning gel. then pop them into peat pellets. i've had a 100% success rate with Olivia's, and i would never use anything else. and a few things to remember...
- with a pencil, make a hole in each peat pellet after it has been soaked in water. so
when you put the cutting in, all the gel doesnt slide off.
- make sure your peat pellets arent soaking wet.
- never dip cutting directly into the bottle of cloning gel. if you do i could conaminate
the rest of the bottle. pour some out into a separate bowl.
- one cutting per peat pellet
- and mist about 2-3 time a day with luke warm water
- and lastly... NEVER be imaptient and pull the cutting out of the peat pellets to see if
they have rooted. you'll know when they do. it usually takes about 4-7 days.

I also tried powdered - liquid cloning componds and then I got Olivias Cloning gel. I will never use anything else unless some new breakthrough comes along. One other thing that I do in a ddition to scraping the lower part of the stem is to split the stem lengthwise for about 1/4". My success went from about 30% - 90%-100% by using gel and splitting the stem. It just give the cutting better opportunities to create root sites. I put the clones directly into my soil mix in peat pots.

thats awsome, i've never heard of splitting the stems. yeah dude, olivias is the best. i've tried the powder shit, and always had a 0% success rate....with rootone anyway.

I have 11 day old cuttings in my aero cloner that have no roots. The cloner instructions said to expect roots in 3-7 days but so far only little bumps on the stem are visible. Do I wait longer or should I take new cuttings? The ones in my cloner are very healthy and green just no roots.

those bumps are the roots starting. in 2 days you will see roots popping out all over the place.

I pulled one of my clones because it was the smallest one with least root development. As I was taking it out of the neoprene guards there were roots growing in the insert but they were so small you couldnt see them. man I hope I didnt waste $70 on this plastic ghetto set up. Roots growing in the insert before growing on the stem where the hormone was is kinda lame. Somoe recently told me the roots like something touching them. I see what he means.

that sux gotta go to the garden store
I soulda know better than getting it from home depot

I use plain soil and put plastic bottles over the top for the first week to 10 days. Ghetto clone domes, but I'm recycling and it works. My favorites are the big plastic bottles the tomato juice comes in now. Just cut that top spout section off and instant clone dome. For seed sprouting, I cut the bottom third off of coke bottles and use them over the pots until the seed sprouts and the shell comes off.

Plastic bottles, they aren't just for holding liquids anymore. :bigjoint:

o yea
Im gonna take some new clones off of this old nirvana mother I have
i just got a new bag of pearlite also for my dome
gonna use some of it to stick the nirvana clones in
50/50 mix of vermiculite and pearlite
Im not sure what she is. Stuck 1 hindu kush and 1 bubblicious into the same pot
1 was male so he got executed
havnt had a chance to flower her yet but she is about 5 months old
been clipping her new growth back to thicken her stem

hey bud, i took clones from my outdoor plants and grew them into mothers, then clones those a few times. i beleive i let thm dry a little as i lost about 15/18, but the 3 i have left, JUST rooted , and they where taken 29 days before! lol they lasted long. im wondering if this is because i did not have a weak but present nutrient in there? only used the rooting hormone. im going t attpemt to take clones from the lower branches of my 6 wk into flowering plant, has many branches as it was a mother
