allright niggas...here we go..i have 2 brand new 400w phs systems....with some ak48 seedlings i wanna grow ....i know to proppery cool it,i need to run some ducting.....so i already have it plabbed..i just need u guys info, advice, etc about my system, and 2 see if it wil;l; succefully keep my average size closet at around 80-85..

1.ima make a diy cooltube using pyrex tubes for my 400 w hps bulb, its VERY easy, since all i need is the tube, ill just use my htg supply light socket for the cooltube, instead of building my own.ill use the cooltube hangers to hang the plant.

http://www.gardenscure.com/420/construction/95622-diy-bakearound-vs-6-cooltube-vs.html

2.since the cooltube is 3.5,ima need some 4 in ducting from home depot..its around 10$ for a rather large roll...http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100396934&N=10000003+90401+500209

3
ima buy some 6in to 4 adpater for the ducting to fit on the 6in fan....they sell it at home depot..

that it..the fan will be placed so its sucking air out of the actaul cooltube..with no ducting on the other side....i will make the duct run short,so the air doesnt trvale too far

now is it eough..ive heard these fans are quite garbage, since theur just boosters..and cant pefrom well in longer duct runs..is this true??

+rep iz appreciated for this simple cootlube diy!!!:weed:

uh, 80-85 degrees, I think the plant actually stops growing at 85 and above, should probably shoot for a lower temp, say like between 70-75 degrees, strain dependent and all. I guess if its that cheap hook it up and find out for your self, as for my experience, yes those little duct boosting fans from home depot wont move enough air to keep temps down, yet it is better than nothing, maybe use one fore and aft of the light, and make sure the inlet source is sucking in cool air, like say from a basement or near the floor, maybe near a window where cool air is coming in, granted this wont work in the summer time. Hope this helps.

Okay dude, start using the spell check ( that's why most of your words have little red lines underneath them) not to harp, it just gets tedious, and you will get more replies as more people will take you seriously, yeah seriously. Um, I'd say using the ducting would be your best bet, that way you can direct the hot air away from your plants, and even out of the grow room all together, otherwise you will just be blowing hot air around and not really getting out of the grow room, which is the desired result. If your going to use the duct boosters, use multiple fans to help move the air better, beyond that I really do not know of any cheap fix.

Sure, there are many options, hydro farm makes inline fans and sun systems makes them as well. Kinda pricey, but like they say, you get what you pay for, I think a 6" fan is over 150$, although I guess you could look for them on ebay or craigslist. I've tried using a booster fan before, and my temps went over 90 degrees! I eventually cut a hole in my grow box big enough to stuff a regular 8" 3 speed fan that you can purchase almost anywhere, and it worked my temps were back down in the mid 70's, but since it had no flange to fit a charcoal filter, I had my house wreaking of ganja, but thats another thread in itself. A grower told me once, "if you cant keep the temps under 80 degrees, take the summer off"! If your grow is in a closet, which is itself in a small room, open a window or have the duct fan pull in cold air from your window, its winter where you live right?

dam..i guess ima go with a 6 voretx..and i guess itll go from there!!...so if i do get the 6 in vortex..do you think i even HAVE TO make the diy cooltubes??i have 2 400w hps..so if i get the vortex, which is arguably the best centrifugal fan,..can i just run a ducting and place it in the middle of the 2 hps..and have it suck the warm air that collcects there????

iwill that b enuff for my 2 400w???:fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

I would say the cool tube would still be your best bet, reason being it will directly cool the lamps allowing you to get your lights closer to the plant tops, and making your garden more efficient. If you just had the fan pulling air from the top of the grow room, or like you said from in between the lamps, they would still get hotter than they would if you were pulling cool air over them, and exhausting that now "hot" air out of the room. You know its a lot of trial and error, I'd suggest setting up your lamps and your fan, and do a "dry" run, with no plants, let the system run for a couple of hours and monitor the temps, if they hit a "ceiling" and dont go any higher than, lets say 78 degrees, you should do all right. On the other hand, if the temps keep rising and you cant control them, well its back to the drawing board. I'm going through the same shit right now in setting up a new grow room, its bigger than a closet, which gives me more room for error, but the same problems exist!

Ya..but in the mean while..will just sucking the air between the top middle of the 2 400 hps lights be enough to keep my closet cool??

For now ima go with tha 4in vortex fan..it should be nought,im only ina closet..ill have it run the entire time the lights are on...

4 inch will probaly be enough in such a small room. You'll want to vent the hot air out and bring cool air in so dont forget the intake vent. With my cool tube and a 6 inch fan its enough to cool the tube to the point of being able to keep your hand on it and also sucks the room air out thru my carbon filter.I use a 6inch duct fan from home depot just for the light itself but I exhaust out to the outside and bring fresh cool air in.Ya want yer temps in the mid 70's.I have 1 fan for the light and the vortex to run the carbon filter. The depot fan just runs the light and only comes on when the light does. The vortex runs 24/7 when bloomin. It also draws thru the light too but thats only cuz of the y-pipe that the system is hooked too.The depot fans is enough just for coolin the light.

ok..however due to my costs..I want to just get a 6in Home depot or htg supply booster....with the ducting..then I want to place the ducting opening right near the 400 hps bulb..and have it sucking the hot air that comes off the bulb iteslf..so will the 6in booster be enough for this??..I plan on just running one 400 hps light,in a regualr size sliding door closet.

I realize their cheap,so Ill just do a short, straight ducting, with no fliter,etc...so Im sure itll work right??
