u can always get the 2 prong adapter tho :-P

Do Not get a 2 prong adapter and try to run your HID light through a $3 2 prong timer....At the very least you will fry the timer, or your ballast because your disabling the ground wire. Worst case you burn your house down.

Just my opinion, but buying the cheapest timer is definitely not the smartest thing you could do. That will definitely be the weak link in your grow setup and could very well overheat, catch fire, and start your house ablaze if you're not around if it happens. How much is peace of mind worth to ya? Hate to see something bad happen to any of you guys(or gals) just because you were lookin' to save a couple bucks. Buy a good one. Just my opinion.

i got a nice digi 3 prong. it was like 10 bucks at HD. pretty sweet. 4 manual timers, it has estimated sun rise and set times for the area time and date.

Look on that page, the heavy duty timer is only $10. That would be perfect and will be grounded. It will be good for up to a single 1000w HID light, or even an AC. For only $10 you will have a good/safe timer that you can use for all kinds of stuff in the future.

Its even a dual outlet timer. You could run like 1200 watts of CFLs with that thing.

Intermatic Heavy Duty Lamp and Appliance Timer $9.98

walmart, lowes, home depot, any local hardware store, fred meyer.

all for under $10 for a 3 prong timer. i wouldn't go ghetto style just to save $2-3 dollars. just buy the correct thing 1 time... save yourself the hassle.
