dude....since i live in a major city, next to the coast, anmd my ph is over 8.5!! woiuld u reccomened i use filtered water like ro or distilled??
You've got a few choices bro, you could just use your tap water and adjust your PH to the 5.2-6.5 range and buy base nutes that are made for hard water, they are usualy called the same thing but have some kinda tag line in front of the name that says "hardwater".
If you've got the green (the cash type) get a Reverse Osmosis filter (RO), i hear they're expensive and waste a lot of water but will give you the clean slate that dude was talking about a few posts ago.

I'm not so sure about the distilled water man, i think that's what I've been getting from here at work but to be honest with you I haven't checked the PPM's of it yet, (I just assumed it was more pure cause it's coming from deer park and is from a water cooler) I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll check the ph of this work water and see if it's better quality and let you know about the distilled stuff.
Right now, if your on a budget and just getting started anyway, I suggest you just use your tap water and adjust a couple things accordingly. You'll get some good experiance and save a bunch of $$ while you perfect your techniques.
Sorry it took so long to respond, I didn't see the question till just a min ago.

One more thing, most nutes will drop your PH to begin with so mix up your nutrients and use less than full strength, like 1/4, check it and see what you've got to work with.

What kinda TDS reading are you getting from your water before nutes anyway?

I'd just let the water set out for about 4 days and let all the chlorine evaporate out of it. Last night while I was grillin some chicken I went crazy with my TDS tester cause I was hungry and just smellin that chickin wasn't helpin me. Check this out, those bottles of water I 've been getting from work, guess what the TDS reading was on those puppies,... 0. that's right, it read a strait up 0. so that tells me that the bottled water is the way to go if you can afford it. Get crackin and get you a TDS meter man, then you'll know exactly what your feeding your babies.

fuck..for the price.,.ima just get me alot of those 89c water gallons from the store....I really have no use for a ppm meter..although I truly want one with a digital ph meter too..just for kicks and ease of growing...

ima start feeding my ak48 seedlings soon..as coco coir is completely barren of all nutes..and seedlings will start to yellow faster than soil grows....

A TDS meter will help you alot when you go to mix up nutes for your AK's, start off low low low and work your way up, good luck bro!

THE main reason i want a ppm meter is to measure my coco coir runoff and tap water ...i wanna measure my tap water and FINALLY see just how bad it truly is....and lets say im having problems with my coco coir..ill just measure the runoff ppm and ph,ands start troubleshooting from there..right guys?
