The more I think about asking this question....the dumber the question seems.

Anyway I wanted to know what dok you all do with your plants while you change the water in your tanks? I'm new so don't backhand me. Haven't seen anyone describe the process of changing the water and what's done with the plants wile doing so. Someone fill me in on your technique.

Mine doesn't drain from the bottom. Its a 30gal. Rubbermaide tub holding 6 pots. So I have to dump it myself. Afraid to leave plants outta the bubbler for too long.

You lift the lid up and off, when the plants are small, and sit them on a clothes basket or trash can.
AFTER they are bigger plants, that will not work, and you lift the lid up two inches, and you get a syphon hose.
After the plants are bigger, you can add a faucet.
I reach in, and disconnect the submersible pump, and stick my alternate hose or tube on it and let my pump pump it empty.

Hey there RoseMan....Always on point with your comments. You know I still have questions though. Like....how to make a faucet for my bubbler....and....is there a way you can show me the syphon method in detail? Maybe a page you can point me to.

Im new but I imagine one would siphon it how theyd siphon oil or other fluids with a simple hose or tube of some sort that lets the water run out somewhere.

Why not go and buy another box ? like the one your plants are already in then just lift the lid and place on to the other box

then you have a back up should that get broken

I hope you have it up off the floor on a table or box or something..

I hope you sprayed a bug spray around so spider mites don't attack it later.

While your plants are babies, you only going to drain it every two weeks, and be waiting for the roots to reach the water line. You fill the tank 80% full of water, and leave an air space, and at about 2 to 4 weeks, your roots will dangle in the water. with an air space in between. The bottom of the grow cups sit an inch above the water line. That first week, they get water, air and nutes from the feeder tubes. After about 4 weeks, you will drain it every 7 days, and as they grow, more often. After aabout 6 or 8 weeks, they will be drinking a gallon of water every day and you just add a gallon. Every time you drain it and the roots are exposed to air for 5 or 10 minutes ,you'll see a growth spurt. The roots love that air, for just 5 or ten minutes. I already had a syphon tube made for my fish aquarium, any hose or tube will do. I lift the lid an inch or two, stick the tube in and start a syphon into my 5 gallon bucket. Throw that water away and replinish.
. I quit syphoning and added a spigcot or faucet that I bought at Stealth Hydro. You might can find one made for a barrell or a plastic drinking water barrell at a hardware store. Then, I figured out how to just stick in my tube and hold it to the tube on my pump and let the pump......pump it out into my bucket. Piece of cake !
and a 2nd air stone works wonders.

a newer popular system uses two tanks, hooked up to each other, one full, with plants in it, one empty,no plants, no water. . In intervals of everyday to once every 5 days, you lift one higher than the other, drain or pump one tank's water into the other tank and then back again. When need be, you go empty one and add new fresh water and nutes.
