It sometimes gets lost in all of the discussion, but the Federal law can be changed with a simple majority vote among our 435 Congressmen and Congresswomen, our 100 Senators, and the President. If 218 Congresspersons, 51 Senators, and the President agree, that's a majority. Are you willing to commit to working with YOUR OWN Congressperson and two Senators to create that change? Just one letter a week from you, and one letter a week from each of your three or four friends, will make a big difference. This isn't some futuristic goal; there are a couple of bills in Congress right now (HR 5842 and HR5843) that will make a huge difference, but only if The People tell our representatives that we want them to support these bills. Find out who your Congressperson is at https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml and write him or her today. Next time you get together with your friends, start out by each writing a letter. It takes five minutes. Do it every time you get together: a letter to your Congressperson one day, your Senator the next, then your State representative the next time... A steady flow of public sentiment will push this forward. Keep it to one-page, check for spelling, and stick to "I'm asking you to support such-and-such...This will make a difference in my vote in the upcoming election..." (avoid stoney stuff, philosophy, "We've all got the right to like, you know, do whatever...").
