CFM fan to filter ratio and general help on design needed

I want to use a Soler & Palau TD 100 due to its size and low noise level. However it is rated at 100CFM.
I was planning on using this carbon filter:

Because the size and price fits my needs, but it says it's minimum CFM required is 150. Will I
have any issues using these two together in a space that is 2.5x2x3 cab?

At the base of one of the walls I am planning to cut a 4 inch inlet hole with this hepa cone filter hooked up on facing inward.

then run the carbon filter>fan>muffler>exhaust hole in a horizontal "U" shape up on top. Will this fan and filter combo be sufficient or is something needed to be adjusted. If anyone could show me to an even smaller 4inch inlet carbon filter with a lower CFM that would be appreciated. As a ventslation set up as a whole though, what do y'all think of that inlet/outlet design?

The filter/fan/muffler combo will all be sitting right above my 2ft 6 bulb t5 fixture I plan on using the entire grow.
I know it might sound cramped but the exhaust setup only takes up 7 inches of height and the t5 just 3 inches so I'll have about 2 feet of vertical free space with a 2x2 floor.

I am open to slight modifications but the space and t5 lighting is set in stone.

your fan need to double the cfm rating of the filter go to can filter website they have a very good faq over there looks like your trying to spend way more than you need, just get a fan,ducting and filter, you can DIY a muffler for cheap but i doubt youll need one with the filter attached to the fan. you dont need he hepa filter but would be a nice addon for your intake to the grow room

Thanks for the fast response! Do you have a suggestion for a different fan/filter combo with a similar diameter size? I may just make my own filter with a coffee can and pantyhose but am not sure of how effective it will be. I was sort of on the edge about the muffler and won't be buying it until after I test my fan out but this whole set up will need to be sealed, quiet, and odor free.

Oh and the hepa filter is just a cleanliness OCD thing I've used one on All other grows I've just never handled a design this small and with the sort of ventalation I have in mind

Would this suffice as a replacement smaller carbon filter? It says it's max CFM is 500 but no minimum is listed

I go the other way. I have always thought that the carbon filter rating is actually for scrubbing application, not single pass.

My carbon filter rating is 2-3 times my fan. Anything less and I smell it outside during the later weeks of flower and dry.

This is for single pass exhaust, not scrubbing.

no id does not matter the chamber inside the carbon filter is a certain size to ensure the entire surface area of the filter is used, if you oversize the filter to the fan you are only using the top half of the filters surface area.


buddy i would keep it really simple, horticulture source.com get 90cft canfilter for 60$ and a 4in inline fan for another 60$ but if you cant afford the fan now you could just try and use the one you have but i dont think it will create enough pressure. i wont be loud at all worst cas scenario do this, http://boards.cannabis.com/diy-how-methods/201603-diy-inline-duct-muffler-silencer.html lots of them just use google you number one tool, also i you have time google elite growers torrent.

I can't seem to wrap my brain around that. Why would it only use the top half of the filter with a slower pull?
The carbon settles to the bottom half of the filter? The filter seems packed tight.

the fan has a limited distance in which the pressure is effectivley strong enought to pull the air thru the filter, larger fan further distance it can create this pressure and still use the filter effectively.

it has nothing to do wih the packing of the filter just the air flow.

I know there are things I overdo in my grow. I'm not saying you are wrong at all. Just trying to understand. I am very open to the idea I am suffering from the "bigger is better" mentality.

That can 2600 looks about perfect for my TD100 fan thanks so much. Just to clarify I am doing single pass exhaust. Carbon filter>fan>maybe muffler>then exhaust out of cab.
