It seems as if most of the side lighting would end up bouncing toward another side of a bulb, like tubes do.

i used a light meter and it was right on at 2.5 inches from the plant lumens were 3800 the math added up to 40000 lumens so it seems that there is not much loss the hood is high gloss egg shell white it is a great reflector the guy that made the hood is pretty good he also supplied the bulbs

Its really nice how clean it looks. Although I dont like how the bulbs are vertical, I like it better when they are horizontal, more rooooooom :D

yea i used to have them at an angle when i bought the hood it came with 10 Y sockets so i could angle the lights also i could have double the amount of bulbs but i was only blooming one plant at the time of the pics so i did not need all of the watts so i took out the Y sockets with them in it was 80000 lumens at 840 watts 7.4 amps a little much for me that plant produced when finished about 4.5 ounces not bad for one plant it is nice though that the hood is 8 inches deep because it really puts the reflector to work the plant is normaly inside that 8 inches the bulbs are 6.5 inches long it really bounces the light around i will say that i would not trade that hood for any other at the present time the strain was skunk special.
