Cfl Proximity To Foliage

Does any1 know if there is any point in giving seedlings (1 week old) 24 hours of light with a 125w enviro? I think I've heard some where they don't even use this much at this stage. The lights are kept 2 inches away and they are growing nicely.

I'm using a 125w cfl 1 inch over tops with fan blowing in-between the gap. Temp about 25c. They grow quick and compact and look very healthy. Closer is better so long as the temps dont get to high, with blue cfl's you can get em 1 inch away, and the more lumens...well, yes. But lumens aint everything!

HI Gam,

A fan is most effective when it is pointed up toward the light from below. thus blowing the warm air up and away fro the canopy of the plants.
Thanks buddy! iloveyou!

Another Q for everybody, since we're getting into "bigger, badder" CFL's: Where can I get them? LOL I've tried homedepot.ca and shit and they only mostly support home lighting. If these big bad CFL's are actually cost-effective... well, Knowm, what's your standing on em?

Stay away from food? Really? I find eating to be one of the most pleasurable activities while I'm fried out of my trees.

WHAT gets you the most HIGH.. the highest.. HIGHER?

CFL bud or HID bud.. is this the question?

I don't know :(

You know Chronic... when I smoke I enjoy all the HERB pretty much the same... I like to smoke.. put on some sunglasses and play frisbee for hours with an occasional dip in the ocean to snap me outta the fog.. i like to stay away from food and BE WARM in the suns rays...

I must admit that I am not very critical about herb.. OTHER THAN AESTHETIC and TASTE....

so basically you want so many fucking cfls that you realize you just spent enough money on cfls that you could have had a 600hps and had 4x the useful light as you have now.

:)
yea right.. I checked online, and the cheapest 600 watt HPS I can get is like 300-400$(ballast, reflector hood, bulb, and socket) you can get 10 32 watt CFL's for about 50$, which is 320 watts 640 watts for just 100$.. they use so much less electricity, and can be confined to a very small space. Cfl's, may make your grow room a little crowded, because you need som many of them, yet they are definatly the way to grow. I mean if you have the money, then go for the all out HPS lamp, but on a budget, CFL's are they way to go.

does any1 kno were to get decent seeds shipped to the U.S ??
thanks:joint:

hey there lowryder.. I can tell you an awsome site to get your seeds from.
the only thing about this, is you will have to trade your US$/CA$ for Euros. This can be done at your local bank. It will take aproximatly 1 month for your order to go through, and the seeds to reach your house. They are definatly one of the cheaper stores to purchase from ( I personally use this store for all my seed needs). And they have quite a big selection. The seeds I got were big, and brown with black stripes, germinated 95% withing 24-48 hours. Check out the site, I know you won't be dissapointed.

here is the link buddy:

Hey how does this look for the CFL's without any plants there for now. I'm planting them tomorrow if the germination is done. And I'll be putting up mylar tomorrow when the store opens. Where besides a hydroponic store would sell that stuff? And the lights will be lower and with the jiffy pucks do they need to be put in anything when you first start them?

FYI for any other broke CFL growers, if you're looking to maximize your $, buy the 30w bulbs from 1000bulbs.com. At 2000 lumens output, for about $3 a bulb, it's the absolute best $ to lumen ratio amongst their CFL's.

I bought 10 bulbs from them to start my girls on, picked up 10 light sockets from this site for about $.70 since a piece:
Lamp Sockets with Leads

This gives me a total of 20,000 lumens for an overall investment of about $60.
This breaks down to a cost of $.003 per lumen. For comparison, a 400w HPS purchased through htgsupply.com will cost $150.00 after shipping and will provide 50-55,000 lumens. Using 50,000 as the production mark, this breaks down to $.003.

While the HPS is much more cost effective in the long run, providing 2.5 X the output at only 1.33 X the input, the CFL's have the advantage of being extremely customizable in size and cost of the system as well as the placement and color spectrum of each individual bulb.
