So i have a small ceiling slant closet that i will be putting a grow box form of thing into. I will be building a box which cant be taller than (3 feet/ deeper than 2 feet/ wider than 3 feet). I will be mounting the cfl at the top of the box with a powercord held by screws. Ill place plants on a platform within an inch or two of the cfl's. I went to home depot today and got a 42 watt 6500k and 2 x 23 watt 2700k I know I need more. Im looking at growing two auto flower plants (blue streak) at a time maybe 3, and my main question is what is the least amount of cfl you think i need to add? I already have a box that is 2feet high a footn a half deep n wide, im probly gonna use this for a seedlings chamber with the 42watt 6500k(untill i get something stronger) and then ill use the 2 x 23 watt 2700k and hopefully some more bigger wattaged cfl's for the flower box. Ne ideas or does this sound like its destined for failure? ne tips would be greatly appreciated as I now how to grow outdoors but dont exactly have a clue indoors.
Thanks

You should be asking yourself what is the most amount of lighting you can have.

Plants use light as their energy source. The more you have, the better they'll grow. Any small or enclosed space is going to have ventilation problems, you'll need to design something to bring continual fresh air for both the plants, and to cool the lights.

Post some pictures, it's easier to decipher.

Where in the hell am I?

Early in yer plants life ya can get away w/1 CFL, By harvest, each should have a minimum of 4 CFL's comin @ different directions, get CFL's w/a heat rating
of 2700K

i just built a make shift veg box with just the 42 watt 6500k i have two freshly sprouted seedlings in there and will have maybe 3 or 4 more by the end of the week, the box is only two feet high two feet wide roughly almost a perfect square. with the powercord n 43 watter in there i have like a foot in a half or less of height. its an old night side stand so there is one wall missing i need to find something to seal it but something which i can continually open. For the flower box ill def be getting more 2700k bulbs im looking at the 150- 300 watt range for those if i can.

your goin to have to get some more lights man cause once those 2 start to grow they are goin to need more light even jus 2 plants....and you need to find another side for that box you dont want light seeking out or light seeking in once you go 18/6 or 12/12

ya for sure, this is extremely minimal right now ill be adding as much lights as i can, and this box is just for starting seedlings n such these two r goin outside cuz they should be way to big, and i will be growing auto flower blue streaks in here but i will need a bigger box with 2700k cfls in it

get a couple 68w 2700k at homedepot for like 15 bucks each

so if i use a couple 68w 2700k cfl plus the two 23w 2700k's i should be good for flower of two autoflower less than 2 foot plants? i might also throw in the 42 w 6500k bulb to the flower box, if i can get a bigger 6500k like a 100 watt or bigger to use by itself in a veg box.

that much height is going to be a massive problem for you when the plants start getting bigger. You will definitely need to top or train them to keep their height down. you will more than likely have heat issues too, contrary to popular opinion even cfls give off a fair bit of heat. good ventilation will help with any temp issues.that being said, people grow in pc cases so i dont see why you cant do this successfully.

125w should be fine for 2 plants. even less will be fine. more light = bigger buds, but you will get buds regardless. just remember the more lights you add the more heat you'll create. i hope you got a thermometer.....

i think you can only get the big ass cfls from grow shops, ive never seen them in home depot or whatever anyway.

edit: oh and buying a big cfl off the internet should be fine...

thanks xray, ya after i built the veg box n put in the light i was like shit i have barely ne height but i will be growing a flower box at least a foot taller. since the autoflower i have should sex before 20 days i think in that time they wont be above the current height of the space in the veg box, so once they sex i will move them to the flower box which will be a foot taller or so. im also hopefully using the veg box for stuff that i will put outdoors so hopefully theyll stay under that size until im ready for them outside.
