You top them to get more colas bros. Lokk at your plant it has to leaves coming from the center on each node right? Okay, if you top it that means you cut the new growth off and to main stems grow right where you cut them and this results in a bushy plant not a rod, you feel me?

It does matter. When you have 5 nodes this is an ideal time. 7 is kinda late. At 5 the lower leaves can grow extra stems as well. You will see new growth in between the stem and the leaves.

yeah its bad for light to hit those roots with the see through cups, that could be making em look diseased

My plants are already 8-10 inches tall and are working on there 7 and 8th node and I just topped them. My plants are already big enough to start flowering.
