Censoring the Net and possibly this site too

If you have not heard of SOPA, you need to check it out. Today is very important for you if you have, or want a voice. They are going to vote tomorrow on a bill to whether or not to censor the Net. First it was in the name of the Children, now it is in the name of Piracy. However, I am sure it is the momentum of free speech with the net.
Think how nice your gardens are and how you circumvented failure by coming to sites like this one....I am sure most of you are good people, who only wanted privacy in their own homes to investigate or learn about different things. I know there are some of you who are Hackers and have ways around this Censorship of the Net. Yet, there are plenty of contributors on this site who have contributed and probably would have not contributed to this site, if a censorship were in place; or a hack was necessary to come here.
This has nothing to do with party lines or beliefs it has to do with putting a muffler on an information highway. I urge you to send an email today or better yet call your rep and BLOW up the phone lines and let your voice be heard!

Want a window into the minds of our opponents? Former Senator Chris Dodd -- head of the Motion Picture Association of America -- says that China censors its Internet, so we can too:

"When the Chinese told Google that they had to block sites or they couldn't do [business] in their country, they managed to figure out how to block sites."

These are the voices our lawmakers listen to. If we're going to win, we need to drown them out before TOMORROW's committee vote on SOPA.

First, and most importantly, please make a call or send an email -- it'll really only take a couple of minutes.

Even if you've called already, call again. Today is that important. The House Judiciary Committee will likely pass the Stop Online Piracy Act tomorrow, and once the bill moves out of committee, the House can pass it at any time. We could be just days away from seeing internet censorship pass in the House.

Second, urge your friends and family to call Congress today.
Simply Google "Censor the internet" why you still can. Here is an address http://americancensorship.org

Stop sitting on your hands or wipe your paranoia away! It is only an email address.
Sianara!

I don't see anything about censoring or first amendment infractions - although I suppose it is possible, this bill presents itself as a protection against pirating. (
not that that is a good thing)

Guized as Pirating.. Like a war on drugs. The Pirating will still be there and always will. However, this will be another step in some way; or fee to have your site published. IF they do not like you message you will be squashed, Do not be so naive.
Sitting on your hands and saying Nay is what got us here. If Americans were not so lazy Cannabis would have never been outlawed and the Nixon war on drugs would have not gotten it's momentum.

Then you are going to have to show me the verbiage that endangers us. It can't be just "well, if they are passing any law about the internet it must be bad", there has to be some indication of that slippery slope. BTW, no amount of civil action would have stopped Nixon, recall we couldn't even get him out of Viet Nam with huge participation. Americans are not lazy, they simply need to actually percieve a problem.

Guys we have been over this, this SOPA crap won't work its just stupid bureaucrats, you can get around it really easy, regardless it will absolutely destroy the Internet and business. Trust me on this I am a sys admin for about 5% of the Internet, this is impossible. I provided technical details in another thread.

When I was in China I couldnt access facebook even. They have come out and said they want a Chinese style internet. I think it was Biden who said that or Lieberman. So I believe it is possible, Ive seen it done.

It's strange watching the rise of the New Reich...ultra-nationalists wanting to censor peoples information sources, indefinite chargeless detention, rule by executive order... Bet the Jews living in Germany in the 30's didn't realise the Enabling Act was a bad thing at the time either.

The bill pretends to be for pirating, but as we all know it will be an attack on our freedom of speech. The bill only focuses on HTTP site and not BitTorrent Protocol.Simply we can still go to our favourite website by knowing the ip address instead of the DNS name. google.com forwards to––> 74.125.159.99.

“I don’t really know much about the Internet, but we should pass this bill” – Congressman Walt.
“What is the difference between an email and a pager?” – Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.

The fate of the Internet is with people like these. The only way they will change their mind is if they somehow we could give them more money than what the supporters lobbying. Am I the only one that feels that everything in the past 3 months has been exponentially getting worse. Its like these people have lost touch with reality.

No, they just know they are safe now that they can arrest anbody at will with no due process and cover their actions up with SOPA to stop leaks.

the trouble with government is basically, that we elect Rulers, controllers, Bosses. LORDS. kings.

we dont elect servants (as it supposedly is, the president is the foremost Servant of the People and Elected to be Such)

thats why.

a president can go completely against the wishes of the people. (they are our kings, not our servants)

(around here, 97% of the people were against supporting usa in iraq, yet 2 top officials made it so and the people couldnt do anything to stop these ELected servants that were Hired to do a job.)

...

still, its mostly a joke to me.

something too stupid about people that Actually elect someone to Boss them around...

well, its become just fucking monkeys in the forest to me..

in fact i would say most humans are at best only 20% above chimps (who are basically like "retarded" humans)

its a fucking comedy.

I think you may not understand what a King is, you see Kings are not elected, they rule for life, so far I havn't seen that in the United States. (Judges, by the way, are not bosses or kings either). So far at least we do not have a serial monarchy. We have a representative republic where we decide who the best person to make decision is, they are not our "servant" if you mean they should act at the immediate behest of the majority. On the one hand you see that as a failing and on the other you cast a dim view of the majority of humans, namely Citizens. On the other you hold that these foolish citizens should be directly running the country.

There goes the glorious government getting in the way of freedom again. When will they realize the nuclear option doesn't work.
