CBO Report: Minimum Wage Hike Could Cost 500,000 Jobs

WASHINGTON — President Obama's call to raise the federal minimum wage could help lift 900,000 workers out of poverty, but at a cost of as many as 500,000 jobs, according to an analysis released today by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

The White House and congressional Democrats--who are seeking to make a federal minimum wage hike a top issue in the 2014 elections--took issue with the politically sensitive report and said CBO's findings are inconsistent with the prevailing view among economists that raising the minimum wage does not impact employment.

So, the centerpiece of Obama and the Democrat's jobs agenda, kills 500,000 jobs.
These bureaucrats can't figure out that it is government that is our biggest problem, it's like a dog chasing it's tail.

With the raising of minimum wage comes the raising of cost of living along with stagnant incomes comes another recession. Then again, the raise will bring the same people wanting a higher minimum wage for not doing the amount of work needed for the new wage above the poverty line, which makes the same lazy individuals buy more crap that they don't need while neglecting their actual responsibilities and bills.

So never mind, there probably wont be another recession simply because those worthless fucks will still be buying shit. Carry on.

If the government was smart (oxymoron) they would regulate responsibility.

Minimum wage laws have never lifted anyone out of poverty, it just creates a new higher threshold.

How would you go about regulating responsibility? How would one go about finding out who is responsible?
A glance in the mirror will give a clue. The person that you see is responsible for your actions. Government cannot create responsibility, their apparatus is designed to water responsibility down. It is how they can murder people in wars and claim it is not murder. It is how cops can steal a persons life and claim they were "just doing my job".

Just using a little sarcasm to make the point that individual choices people make are the problem, not minimum wages.

Minimum wage laws have never lifted anyone out of poverty, it just creates a new higher threshold.
And more disposable money for many of the irresponsible to squander.

The Feds can regulate inflation at 2-3 percent a year.

Eroding the purchasing power of the dollar, but the hourly worker who lives pay check to pay check gets no relief in terms of raising wage.

Makes you wonder when people will get off their ass and make something of themselves instead of complaining and getting it for nothing. When you live paycheck to paycheck, you have to start figuring out what is important.

Learn to coupon and develop a skill while getting a decent education. They also need to stop having a victim mentality.

I wonder about the 2-3 percent figure. Also if the nanny state didn't regulate low income housing out of existence, the low income worker would be better able to house him or herself.

This is the number one excuse I hear. Not everyone can do that. Some people can barely take care of themselves.

Inflation hurts the lowest income brackets the most.

Who cannot take care of themselves? I'm talking about able bodied individuals and it isn't difficult to live within your means. Inflation doesn't hurt when you shop at discount stores.

and do you also feel that if you have a unplanned fetus with your fiance you should abort it ? Makes you wonder when people will get off their ass and make something of themselves instead of complaining and taking the easy way out.

we can probably rule out all the dipshits living in tiny little apartments in the south who go out and procure hasty abortions whenever they're not too busy growing weed that looks like lettuce.

Well if the system collapses, I just hope its in spring, so I can simply tend to my ladies outdoors, and trade for essentials. Fuck it.
