CBD Shark Haze - Medcreational Grow

Hi everyone! LB here gearing up for another exciting grow! I've been growing off-and-on for the past 10 years and can never seem to stray from the hobby for more than about six months at a time. Even though I don't consume more than a few grams per month, I just love having an abundance of fresh, cheap, homegrown dank on hand. I love giving it away, baking it into edibles, processing trim into bubble hash, sharing it with folks that come over for backyard barbecues, and simply looking at perfectly manicured frosty nuggets sitting in a mason jar on my shelf. This grow is different, though, for a couple of reasons.

First and foremost is my health. It has recently come to my attention that I am likely on the Autism spectrum. Though not officially diagnosed, I’m fairly certain I have a majority of the traits of Aspergers Syndrome. From audible distortion in crowds to difficulty with empathizing, understanding jokes, socializing, controlling the volume and intensity of my speech, holding eye-contact, gauging people’s interest in my monologues, I check off most of the boxes. Needless to say it gets in the way of experiencing the riches of life. On the neutral/positive side of the disorder, I collect data on a narrow range of subjects including and limited to: astrophysics, engines, my profession, home addresses, phone numbers, weather data, historical events, the net worth of prominent celebrities and business professionals, and, you guessed it, marijuana strains. Spending time learning about these fields of interest is time well-spent. To combat the negative traits, I will be growing and consuming CBD SHARK HAZE, a 1:1 CBD to THC strain of indica-dominant lineage. The parent strains are Shark Shock x Pink Floyd, and it was bred by a mutual friend of my cousin.

I've had excellent results with 1:1 and 2:1 CBD to THC strains in both edibles and flower, and am excited to see if this can represent a long-term solution to a lifelong condition. The research is still out on CBD-dominant strains, but I'm a huge believer and proponent of this fabulously therapeutic compound.

The other thing that differentiates this grow from others is its size. Up until now, my grows have always been confined to relatively small spaces under small budgets. With the help of tutorials on gardenscure (RIP), rollitup, and others, I've DIY'd everything from ballasts and cooltubes to duct mufflers and carbon scrubbers. However, this time I'm only really interested in DIY-ing the grow room--most of everything else will be purchased in an effort to preserve my limited time and limit trouble-shooting from design flaws. I'm not interested in bending over dollars to pick up dimes anymore. Since marijuana is now legal in our fine state, I plan to grow four good-sized plants in a quiet corner of my house.

I own a 1905-built downtown craftsman bungalow home with an attic space that roughly measures 10' x 40'. Most of it is set up as a bedroom and entertainment space, but my wife agreed to let me have a small section of the attic solely for growing that sweet, sweet cheeba. The head clearance is low (6'1") and the walls taper to a 4' hip, but I roughly have a 10' x 7' grow space to grow my legal limit of 4 plants. I've grown in less and have fared decently well, so I'm especially excited about finally having some room to sprawl out!

The one and only photo I currently have is my mid-construction pic I snapped while framing in the wall. Since this photo was taken, I've added additional studs and sheetrock. Soon I'll be texturing and painting the wall, making fine adjustments to the door, and rigging up the light/fan/scrubber combo.

I hope you will join me in this journey. I'm anxious to share my first full "room" grow! As a trait of my "disorder," I'm a meticulous person and will be documenting the minutiae of this grow. My goal is to leave no stone un-turned, and gloss over no detail. In a sense, this grow journal is, itself, therapeutic. Thanks for understanding.

Nuts and bolts
Grow room:
• The grow room footprint is 10' by 7'. 6'1" down the middle with a 27" width at the ceiling's flat-point, tapering to a 4' hip via a 30º angle.
• The 111 year old fir flooring will be protected by two bins lined with panda film.
• The bins will be located on the left and right of the room. A pathway down the middle of the room will exist as a workspace and place for an oscillating fan or two.
• Each side will be illuminated by a 400w HPS. Depending on temperature issues, I may purchase a 600W HPS for one side. I currently own just 1x400w. 2 plants per bulb.
• Intake will be accomplished through the attic crawlspace. A vent will be added to draw cool air from downstairs (just over the laundry space)
• Exhaust will be accomplished through the window *or* through the 4" piping that our dryer shares. I haven't decided yet
• I will be running a S&P TD100X inline fan to start. I have not yet selected a carbon scrubber. I suspect this fan will be upgraded on the front-end of the project.

Medium and Genetics

• FFOF (Fox Farms Ocean Forest) soil mixed with Perlite at a ratio of 60% FFOF to 40% Perlite
• Pots will start out as quart-sized and graduate to 5 gallon prior to flowering. I have an overwatering problem--this limits my error.
• Shark Haze CBD strain--regular seeds. Approximately 7% THC to 7% CBD. Strain hybrid is Shark Shock x Pink Floyd.

More to come this week as the beans are germinating!

Short update for now. I added additional studs and dry walled it all in. Next up is sanding, retexturing, sanding some more, and painting. Beans have not yet broken soil.

Our business has picked up so this hobby has taken more of a backseat than I'd like for it to, but without money the project cannot go on!

After its all painted, I'll frame in the door and add baseboards so that it matches the overall aesthetic of the house.
