Carport Greenhouse 2010

I looked at the first page or two but so many pages and ideas flickering in my mind cant seem to stay on one page! haha.

Any how i saw the green house is big this one. By feet wide and tall and long was not sure. I mean somethen this size you can fit like 20 plants n there? Also can the sun get through the sides?

I really liked dirtyd's green house but will need somethen bigger. What about those kits they sell? I just need pointed in right direction for a green house to put 10+ plants in. Whats gardening is all about!

This is a Costco carport $189. Covered with plastic sheeting from Home Depot. The walls are sunscreen mesh from Home Depot.
The sun get's thru fine. These things work great!
You can build one in a day

Thats insane i just watched the last video you posted. What about keeping it cool in the green house in the summer or when the suns just beaten on it? I am in the dessert and let me tell you summers here can get hot.

I see you just planted in the ground. If i used smart pots like 15 gallons will they get as big as yours started at the right time? And were those clones or seeds? And How much was the sheeting from home depot? I got one of those : )

The plastic sheeting is cheap, but only lasts a few months. I'm covering with Solexx this year $350, but should last 6-8 years.

The sunscreen mesh lets the air blow thru from every direction. It get's over 100 here in Sac in the Summer time, no problems, besides you can just cool off in the shade!

haha! Killer i am lookin at solexx right now online. So your sayen if go ahead build this thing uuse solex for just the top and then for the sides use the mesh you mentioned? And i dont have use fans or ac or open it up? Never done one of these but just was concerned about the heat. Grow on!

I just love that pic and the stem on that plant. My soil for the holes is cooking now. I will let it cook until transplant week.dirrtyd

Thanks peps. I have plants started for this season, I'll post 2011 thread soon.

There have been many changes from last year. I have removed all of the trees from my backyard & moved the greenhouse to the other side of my garage. Much more room, better sun.

I will use 100gl smart pots this year. I'm going for more (9), but smaller plants. Hoping for 1-2 lbs each. Should be easier to control.

I have put-off having knee surgery until now, but I have an appointment in a couple of weeks with the Ortho Surgeon, hope to have it done before it's time to plant.

Good luck everyone, I'll be reading as many of your grow threads as I can, I learn so much.

Looks good dirty, I've had a few do that. They usually stop growing 3, & just grow normally.

Wow is all i can say haha. You got the idea double jj. So what was your medium? I wanted to use 15 20 gallon smart pots and hope for the same yield you mentioned. Is this possible? Step dad says he can take a 7 gallon pot and get two pounds out of it. Dang ol hippy ways haha. I mean how many trash cans full of dirt would you even use with a 100 gallon smart pot? So just your medium and the maxsea fertalizer got you those pictures?

How much would it cost me to construst the same green house you built start to finish?

Im not sure if i missed it or not but what ind of materiel is that on the sides and does it let light through pretty easily?

Its a sun mesh from home depot on the walls light and air go through he said. I just wanna know how much it would cost to build one of these with the mesh and panels. and if costco still has the same car port for the same price.

Roll of 6mil plastic from HD $100 - enough plastic to cover several times
Rolls of sunscreen mesh from HD $30 - need 2 or 4 rolls
15" zip-ties to attach plastic $15 - need 2 packs

You can use plastic or sun mesh for the walls. Attach everything with zip-ties. You just puch a hole with a dime store hole punch, & use a zip-tie to attach to carport frame.

This is some fantastic stuff.
One question.
In most pictures i see that the plants are in the ground, yet in other pictures they are in planters.
Do you put them in planters and then put the planter in the ground?
Is there an added benefit to that, or just personal taste?
Would simply putting the plant in the ground and not using a planter make much of a difference?

Im about to grow for the first time, and ive decided your method to be the one i want to emulate.

Last year they were in the ground, this year I'm gonna give smart pots a try.

The pictures with the containers were before they went outside & into the ground. They were started indoors.

Amazing set-up, I am doing my first outdoor grow this year. Quick question, if I am trying to flower my plants early, do you think covering the plants with that tan sun screen tarp over part of the plants (so they get fewer hours of direct sun light) in order to induce flowering? In other words, does the tarp have the ability to block sunlight to induce flowering?

Thank you, but no the sunscreen mesh would not work for light deprivation. You would need to get another tarp for that.
