Carbon filter

Pie knows what she's talking about. a 5x5 is more than enough space for 4 huge plants. You haven't even germed a seed. You don't really need to worry about controlling smell quite yet. You sound like your freaking yourself out and you haven't even started. Better hope that helicopter doesn't start flying around your grow spot lol.

Good luck!
You dident read whole threat

I said im going to grow more plants in the near future

and is there a reason I shouldnt worry about the smell of my plants?

Asking for information is normal and now ur calling me a paranoid fuck because I asked the basic stuff

don't worry about the sarcastic feedback as some members are just that way with rookies....you are doing the right thing by pre-planning before jumping into the deep

People have given you answers about the carbon filter. I never said you don't need to worry about the smell of your plants, but your couple plants wont REALLY start to smell until they are closer to flowering. You are going to need a carbon filter with an inline fan. They are noisy and somewhat expensive, but that's the cost to keep the neighborhood from smelling. It's good to plan, but you're talking about holes in the middle of the rooms and sucking air from the ground??? That's not "asking normal stuff"

www.growweedeasy.com do what they say and you will have no problems.

Why don't you actually try helping the dude? Nobody said he was doing wrong by pre-plannin. Read his post and help out, and please don't go to site admin and tell them I'm "picking on you" again.

the CFM/filter combo is matched to the amount of cubic feet in the room/tent/container. It takes certain equipment to grow. Fans and ballasts make noise, some less than others. Adapt the grow environment to the limitations of the equipment you have available. Figure out how to mask noise. The noise made by most fans and ballasts will be barely noticeable, if at all, outside the room. Are you trying to grow and keep it a secret from other people in the house? I don't see that happening.

If you can use the whole room you do not need a tent.

A fan filter combo is very important, even to a legal grower like me. I do not want a pizza delivery guy smelling weed and then burglarizing my home, forcing me to shoot him.

Just step up to reality and know that you have to have a fan filter combo, period. Don't uuse a crap fan and a homemade filter when it could cost you your freedom.

I have used fan filter combos from HTG for years. One 6" tallboy filter lasted me 2.5 years in my tent.

Don't forget the fan speed control.

So you suggest he does an open grow in the room he says he only wants to use part of and run a couple plants?

The tent can help with the smell (easier to filter,) as well as keep light in/out. Or you could throw it in the closet and get some mylar.. 1000 ways to skin a cat. Might be better off just starting with a couple in a closet or small tent and then expanding from there.

Jbone, you git a hard on for trousers or something? Every time I see him post, you come back with some snide remark. Whats up with that?

Sorry OP. My first grow I tried to do a "closet" grow, that very quickly spilled out and eventually took over our spare guest room. Be a bit forward thinking and make sure you have enough room to expand. I'm pretty sure you will once you smoke your own weed. Mine now has its own facility!!

I believe the reason a tent would make it easier is that you could have a veg and flower tent.

5x5 is a big space, believe it or not for a home grow, you can get some respectable harvest from that paired with a 600, or 1000w.
And for a veg room you could go 3x3 or 4x4, that room looks big enough. Save electricity and $$ vegging with CFL's, then use the hps for flower.

The carbon filter is necessary by the flip, if you do not have a carbon filter, you deft need some exhaust setup as others have said. with the two tents you can run ducting through the tents to the other tent, out to another room, window, attic etc.

Growing for personal use is one thing to get dialed into first. To think you will have quality buds and even enough to turn a great profit is an ok mindset, because in our world, there is always a consumer for any quality. But if you get a couple grows under your belt, youll be able to notice different deficiencies, burn, heat stress, humidity problems, temperature issues, cloning.... and most of all learn to keep your mouth shut to everyone and telling no one you are growing. Only us on RIU lol. Take it small then go up. I don;t think people were trying to discourage you, just help see reality.

For smell issues always go with a higher rated inline fan setup so you can dial it down with something like this....http://www.amazon.com/Variac-Variable-Transformer-300va-Output/dp/B006NGI8VS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383068210&sr=8-1&keywords=variac
any of those other controllers out there will not save you electricity and will kill the lifespan of the fan.

Hempy buckets are a viable option because they grow 2-5x more than a soil bucket, and are pretty simple to learn and dial into...and are forgiving for newbies...https://www.rollitup.org/drain-waste-hydro/546006-world-hempy.html

Look into LST and SOG or Scrog style growing, so you can manage your plants height.

There is much to learn, and all comes with jumping in and doing so, expectations are not to be confused with confidence, be confident that you will learn, and use all that you learn to better your next grow, research all free time and you will learn a lot, Rollitup has huge info if you search properly, and videos and books are the first source to go to, before anything.

Enjoy

Dont think me n trousers have exchanged words but a couple times. The guy says in the first page he doesnt want to use the entire room, so everyone including myself said to get a tent, trousers said he didnt need a tent, I asked if he was suggesting an open grow in a room with 2-4 plants, thats not getting after somebody, thats asking a question of someone who says to do the exact opposite of what everyone else has said. Did I miss somethin?

Is what I posted. If I had an entire room I would not buy a tent.

Why buy a tent if you have a whole room?
If the op wants to do a veg area later, then a tent might be a good idea or better yet section the room into two areas.

I don't care wtf the OP does, he is in it for money not love.

This will be my last post in this thread, you and jack harer are correct, I was wrong. Even tho he will only be doing 2-4 plants in the room, a tent would be a waste, it wouldnt be stealthier, it wouldnt be more efficient for lighting, it wouldnt prevent him from suspending lights from his ceiling, it wouldnt keep his carpeting and walls in good shape and it wouldnt help with odor control. So I apologise to you and jack harer, and to the OP for suggesting a tent would be beneficial in his situation, it was foolish of me and I clearly hadnt read the thread, I will leave now, ashamed of myself for suggesting such a foolish thing.

5x5 tent seems quite small to me

Are there any benefits if I buy a bigger tent like would the plants breath and grow better because of more space and more air inside?

The proper fan filter combo will replace the air in your tent several times every minute. It will provide proper air flow and plenty of air.

Im also planing on planting more after I get some progress and if the weed sells fast enuf

Also can a dimmable 600 watt HPS produce enough light for 4 plants should I buy 2 lights instead?

With a 600 watt hps and four plants you should be pulling 8-12 oz as long as you veg for 3-4 weeks and don't kill your plants.

Then comes the trimming. Which can take forever if inexperienced. Then drying and properly curing for no mold.

Another question related to the filter >

So the room is a basement so its like 1 m below ground after I set up evrything can I make a hole in the middle of the room to put the filter in the ground so the air goes down the ground? (not more than 10cm below the room surface/floor)

If I do that can it suck up air from the ground or w/e ?

putting a hole in your basement wall or floor is a BAD idea. Would cause your basement to flood during rain, make your humidity rise, and possible damage your foundation. You would not be able to push or pull air through the ground.

Wasn't everyone doing it for the money ? (In most cases free smoke still done because of the $$)

I would prefer a tent because I have a rather big fridge in the room that I cant remove so making (I wont paint it) the whole room with reflective material seems too much to me

So this just hit me today if im using a 4x4 tent carbon filter and a fan and the room is 5 to 10 degrees will it be hot enough in the tent so the plants can grow?

Start with a SINGLE plant grow and a 4" inline fan and carbon filter combo (I bought one shipped for $150 on hog supply.com) You will find even one MJ plant alone can be quite noticeable in a home at 10 plus weeks into flowering. Even after a month of vegging MJ plants start to smell like weed! You may find 2 or more plants require bigger 6" plus filter/fan combos to adequately scrub that space of odor, as well as additional odor maskers like ona gel. Always remember that living in a grow deadens your senses to the smell, but others entering your house are waaaaay more sensitive, so your odor control MUST be together!

That room looks nice to me with nice clean carpet. I wouldn't want to spill water/soil on a new carpet. I also wouldn't want the smell of weed to soak into the carpeting. If you started growing in the room Without a tent you will lose alot of reflected light that you would keep with a proper sized tent for your grow.

Even if you are planning on growing more plants in the future it is good to have a tent because it has bars to hang your lights, fans and filters. You could get an additional tent in the future to veg with while you have your girls flowering in the same bedroom.

A tent also creates a barrier to light and smell. All the air leaving your tent will be free of the skunk weed smell and so will air that travels under the rooms door. Plus there will no suspicion from the neighbors from sealed off windows and no light leaking out of the room into the hallway.

As far as sound goes, no one will hear it outside the house. Noone will hear it down the hall in your living room. Maybe if they walk by the door they may hear it, but you will also have circulation fans making noise. Just have a fan running in another room (like your bedroom and leave the door open) and unless people are super nosey they will not notice.

Another thought: you will need a place to store your jugs for water, nutrients, and misc gear. You will need floorspace for that. Also nice to be able to sit outside the tent and stare at the plants. Lol

Also get some blinds and thick curtains for your window so noone can peep in and see the tent.

A light will only raise the temps of a tent 5-10 degrees, so no.

You will not be able to grow in house with no heat. You could buy a space heater for the room.

Good way to get robbed btw if you don't actually live in the house.
