carbon filter push or pull?

can i push the air out of the carbon filter or is does it only work by pulling the air through? i hope that makes sense..

You need a fan pushing air through it. An exhaust fan for your grow room which you should have and just throw a duct from the fan to the filter.:bigjoint:

the answer is this
fans work better when pulling so the answer is pulling air through the filter
you can push air into the filter but it wont work as well!

if your gonna use an air cooled hood ( and you should then the order of things is /filter to hood to blower pulling!

this is so you dont end up pumping hot air through the filter.
heat screws with charcoal filters.
so pull air filter first.
 
I purchased 2 carbon filters about a year ago, one for each room. Both are designed to pull the air through the filter. They have worked very well for me. Be sure and figure out the cubic feet of the room and match it with a filter designed to handle that sized area.
 
i really need to push..so i am going to do it and see if it will work. my room size is 2x2x8 i got a 200cfm filter.. it seems over kill but rather be safe then sorry.. thanks for the info everyone
 
The design of the filters is pretty simple. They can go either way. So what is better for your setup will be fine. I push air through for a new filter to get the loose carbon fibers out. I usually use a shop vac for this purpose. good luck!
 
I agree, the filters and fans usually work better pulling rather then pushing, but they will usually work either way. in my case, I too will have to push air into the filter from the fan.
 
I use my exhaust fan to pull hot air out, and blow it threw my carbon filter. Still going with the principle that the fan pulls better than it pushes. But i really dont need it to push that hard to push air out the filter.

i have seen it both says but blowers and fans pull much more efficiently.
i am going ot have my fan pulling all the way but i am looking to design a muffler anyone have any good plans?

this is a good reason to push air into a carbon filter. it will muffle much of the sound. I've never seen the inside of one, but I'd say, it's just a wooden box with a few baffle boards inside it and everything lined with some kind of sound muffling foam. sounds pretty easy to make.
 
i use a 4" high velocity fan to pull cool air through my lights(2x 1000w) and push it out through the carbon filter/box i have mounted in the window frame. i have 2 other exhaust fans pushing out through another filter in same box. My window/exhaust is air/light tight. heres a couple pics for ideas.

Pull.
When you pull air through the scrubber is uses more surface area... which translates to longer life for the charcoal, not to mention when you pull you can also use the filter which extends life also.
So if you have a choice PULL.

Push, pull, whatever.

I've pushed, pulled, all the like, if you can't afford two fans, push.

Otherwise pull the air through the lights and push into the filter.

Best it to sit the fan right on top and PULL air through and straight out into the open, and use a different fan for exhaust.

Push, pull, push, pull... Less filling, tastes great.
 
If you do push into the filter it works great as a muffler, but it restricts flow and fan efficiency, but I have a mega huge high velocity 10" can fan, it pushes a shitload of air.
 
Why can't you just you mount a filter the the intake of the fan and the exhaust thru the lights and out the room? It seems the easiest way to go? You aree sucking air in thru a filter and pushing it thru the lights and outside the room. Then you can just use a passive intake. Just get a slightly oversized fan for your room..

I'd like to hear some real proof on why one option is better than the other.

Instead of "push","pull end of question"

There's no evidence that pushing air or pulling air through carbon is any better.

If your thinking pulling is easier on the fan, your wrong.

If you think more air passes through in either way, your wrong.

It doesn't fucking matter people.

When it comes to venting your hoods, pull, but we're talking about a carbon filter.
