hey nerds, nugs here......today i had a old friend call me stating that his wife just spent five days in the hospital for a crohn's flare-up! they were wondering what she could ingest cannabis wise to help her ease her suffering, and eventual healing......i don't know much about the disease, so i am starting research tonight....i made some canna coco butter last month, and gave them some, but it is really fucking strong, very indica, very body......and it is too much for her....i want to make her something real soon.......i will have vortex, flav, and ace available to make something with.......i have also begun to do some research on juicing raw canna.....but this may be unrealistic for them because they live in a non-med state.....if any of you have any insight to add about the disease, method of medicating, or strains to target, i would appreciate it greatly......your fellow nerd, nugs

I have a very close friend who has had it for years and he is in and out of the hospital all the time and has just started to have to ware a bag to shit so he doesn't get out that much anymore. If I don't here from him for a few weeks I know he's back in the hospital an for usually 2 or 3 weeks at a time for treatment. I've smoked with him for the last 15 years and he know's I've always had several diff kinds of bud around and out of all strains I've let him try over the past 6 months Boggs Sour Bubble works best for him as far as pain relief and helping him eat more. I've tried all my strains and the Sogouda's pheno that's bluberry/cheese works ok also. I had him try the sogouda's pheno that's more G13/haze that I like better but it wasn't for his needs. The more Indica hybrid strain crosses seem to agree better with him. The shorter Agent Orange pheno works better than the taller pheno also. Here's what he's tried from me ----> Querkle,Vortex,Plushberry,Lavender,Medicine man,Sand storm,PCK,Korean skunk,Lui13and Destroyer didn't work as good as the Bubblegum strains like Mosca's Indy bubblegum x otm cross and Bogg's Lifesaver,Boggle gum and Sour Grape all worked good but the Sour Bubble was by far the best for him. It's a slow in veg and lite on yield but like all Bushy's strains it finish's quick in flower.

I hope this helps you out and you might want to P.M. a few seed breeders on the forums and see what they think about it like Subcool and Mr Nice's forum's Guys and another breeder on alot of forums named Chimera is real nice guy and helpfulme

I suggest people interested in CBD varieties for med-use check out CBDcrew.com . Shantibaba from Mr Nice seeds, who is part of the CBD crew along with Jaime from Resin seeds, have made a series of hybrids which contain roughly 1:1 ratios of THC:CBD.

I recently met with both Shanti and Jaime in Spain, and we talked about the potential of doing some work together on CBD related projects. I've just started a whole series of different CBD containing lines, and we'll see which one are best suited for hybridizing with some of the high THC stuff I have access to... IMO there is a lot of potential yet to be seen with the CBD alleles in other genetic backgrounds.

Definitely check out CBD crew though if you want something high in CBD immediately. ProjectCBD.org also tries to disseminate information pertaining to the medical importance of CBD, and has a lot of great information if people are interested... definitely worth a peek.

Treatment of Crohn’s disease with cannabis: an observational study
via PubMed
Isr Med Assoc J. 2011 Aug;13(8):455-8.

BACKGROUND: The marijuana plant cannabis is known to have therapeutic effects, including improvement of inflammatory processes. However, no report of patients using cannabis for Crohn’s disease (CD) was ever published.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the effects of cannabis use in patients suffering from CD.

METHODS: In this retrospective observational study we examined disease activity, use of medication, need for surgery, and hospitalization before and after cannabis use in 30 patients (26 males) with CD. Disease activity was assessed by the Harvey Bradshaw index for Crohn’s disease.

RESULTS: Of the 30 patients 21 improved significantly after treatment with cannabis. The average Harvey Bradshaw index improved from 14 +/- 6.7 to 7 +/- 4.7 (P < 0.001). The need for other medication was significantly reduced. Fifteen of the patients had 19 surgeries during an average period of 9 years before cannabis use, but only 2 required surgery during an average period of 3 years of cannabis use.

CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of cannabis use in Crohn’s disease in humans. The results indicate that cannabis may have a positive effect on disease activity, as reflected by reduction in disease activity index and in the need for other drugs and surgery. Prospective placebo-controlled studies are warranted to fully evaluate the efficacy and side effects of cannabis in CD.

it sounds like a strain with serious anti-imflamatory properties is what could be mostly benificial......hope Sub will see this, and chime in, perhaps one or more of his strains could help........anybody know what cannabinoid(s) are reponsible for anti-inflamation?

i do have four different kushes going, but like i metioned, she is a go-getter, so heavy kush stone may not be what she can handle......thinking more up and heady, with little anxiety, motivational, giggly, pain relief...........maybe jillybean?

i do not exactly have crohns, they diagnosed me with IBS + or - crohns (they think its crohns but cant find any inflammation in my bowels) but my symptoms are very similar. nausea, appetite loss, stomach pain, intestinal cramping, diarrhea.

ive found bubba kush and its hybrids to be superior in terms of medical effect (havnt tried cheesquake yet but based on the CBD levels it should be great too), especially when it comes to nausea releif and appetite gain. my guess is that ripped bubba will be an incredibly medical strain with the high CBD and THC-V and i cant wait to try it. but as you mentioned bubba hybrids tend to be unsuitable for days when i need to be focused and get stuff done.

for a nice daytime medicine i would agree that jilly bean is great to start her out, especially if she is new to cannabis use. and if possible i would opt for a glycerin tincture over edibles. it is easier to dose out, and gives her more control about what food/drink she wants to consume her medicine with. i know for me somedays there are things i simply cant get down so being able to choose what to put it in would be a big plus if i didnt smoke.

in terms of what you have now to work with, i would go with the flav or ace, depending on which is less stony. mabye the vortex if it is a more mellow pheno. i know for some people anxiety can exacerbate stomach problems so whatever you use her first time using a new strain she should only use a little to see how she reacts.

Nug, check out a thread in the Michigan forum titled "Dear marijuana, I'm dying please help".

It's a member with Chrons, who has battled it for 20 years and she is documenting what she is doing so far as medical marijuana, tinctures, juicing, etc.

There's some very good info there.

Anti-inflammatory cannabinoids = THC and CBD. Minor ones are CBC and CBG.
Anti-inflammatory terpenoids = myrcene, caryophyllene, cineole, eucalyptol, pinene, and carene
Anti-inflammatory flavonoids = apigenin and sitosterol

CBD also has the added bonus of being anti-spasmodic, helping to relax our GI Tract for normal digestion (or as close as possible >_<)
Of course us crohn's patients all differ.

Personally i take high cbd medicines everyday, high thc when i need more pain relief. I find that alot of REAL kushes (the indica heavy hybrids) help out a decent amount. Anything purple/purple smelling will also help alot by relaxing your stomach and allowing you to get some rest. Blueberry and hybrids made with blueberry tend to work extremely well too for ALL stomach conditions :) Would also recommend almost any decent edible as it puts the medicines where they are needed most.

Aside from all that the only other thing that really helps is a full diet overhaul. No veggies with skin, no fruit with skin, nothing really high in fiber or sodium, nothing with gluten at ALL, no spicy foods, no red meat, no seafood, etc..etc. For me i've found that gluten effects me almost as much as some spicy foods so its just best in general to steer clear (yes i know this is super super hard).

Strains › Sour Bubble
[h=1]Sour Bubble[/h]

Classification: Indica-dominant
Parents: BOGBubble (backcrossed 3 times)
Growing Environment: Indoor/outdoor
Garden Skills: Intermediate
Flowering Time: 7 - 8 weeks
Yield: Moderate
Medical Uses: Chronic pain, insomnia, muscle tension, anxiety, nausea
Breeder: B.O.G. Seeds
Cannabissearch.com Buzz Rating: Plain and simple, you won't be disappointed when you choose to medicate with Sour Bubble, an indica-dominant strain that offers relief from chemotherapy, insomnia, panic-attacks and more.
While most strains are composed of two different strains, Sour Bubble is actually backcrossed with one strain, 3 times. BOGBubble, the breeder’s signature strain, was chosen to be backcrossed, not once, not twice, but three times, creating a strain with improved flavor, potency and a shortened flowering time. These buds are medium to large-sized, very sticky and neither airy nor dense.
Typically, growers will see the flowering time go from around 7 weeks up to 8 weeks. These ladies like a medium amount of nutrients and will thrive in a hydroponics environment, where the calyxes swell to unfathomable proportions. Lastly, just 2 weeks of vegetation is all that should be required before forcing flowering indoors.

I crossed the mocha phenotype of Sour Bubble with a great large yielding phenotype of Agent Orange and it's one of the best tasting and strongest buds I've smoked or grown in the last 20 years. Bushy and Subcool should really look into this cross and do a joint project. The cross of bogs Lifesaver had subcools JTR genetics in it years ago so maybe they could put this one together
