Planning on starting a small grow. 1 or 2 plants at a time.

first question I have is for all the canadian members here. where should i order my seeds?

next question is: I wanna grow 1 or 2 plants in my 1br apartment. wanna keep it fast and simple. also any suggestions on masking the smell would be greatly appreciated.

what type of grow would you guys suggest for someone like me looking to grow 2 small plants. pc case?
what type of lights? cfl? how many and where to get it? how many watts etc etc

After I get some more info and actually start the grow I will use this thread to show off my first grow step by step so I can get help from you guys in case something goes wrong :P

thanks in advance guys:bigjoint:

i get mine from attitude, herbies ect all good sources youll get em ive never had a problem

first off you need to think about apartment growing. its tricky and usually best to avoid

- is your place up for sale at any time or will it be ? mine currently is and trying to hide a bunch of plants really fucking sucks
- is your place old IE things will need fixing, plumbing , electrical ?

you can an indeed grow small and simple if youre just growing for yourself i do suggest auto plants.
you can indeed do a pc case with cfls most people will tell you not too
ultimately, you need to decide for yourself what is best. what will work for you ect.

as for smell you can pick up ona gel, if its just 1 or 2 plants it will absorb the smell,
i highly suggest picking up fem auto seeds , that way youre neither wasting your time and they will grow smaller you can make them be smaller by growing them in smaller pots
"I have personally changed several cannabis plants over to the flowering stage when the plants are only 2-3 weeds old, which is as early as I'd recomment. But like this extreme girl to the left (less than a foot tall and grown under CFLs in a computer case), I've experimented starting the plants on 12/12 directly from seed to keep plants REALLY small.
Whenever forcing your cannabis to flower early, the plants will stay small and end up spending almost all their energy on producing flowers/buds on what few stems they have, instead of growing tall.
Some people say that cannabis that is forced to flower too early will not make any buds, but that hasn't been my experience at all. Even plants flowered from seed immediately start making buds when you change over to the 12-12 light schedule.
The one problem I've had with forcing cannabis to flower early is that since the plant is much smaller, which equals smaller yields."

I highly suggest you grow from 12-12 in a computer case or small box youve created or like a dresser say that can be easily hidden

it's funny you should ask, it is an old building and they will be doing electrical work soon. my caretaker says smoking pot is ok, i did not dare ask about growing. but anyway, i was planning to start after the electrical work is done, she warned me about it a month ago, so it will happen soon. doesn't mean i cant start creating my grow case and setting stuff up.

thanks for all the info, will continue reading

I used a little box I found at work...boxfound.jpg...9"w x 11"l x 26"h

rigged it up to use cfls....boxhalfmade.jpg...but it could only fit 1 x 42w or 2-3 x 26w.

a 42w cfl is about $15-$20 a piece here...and 2 26 w cfls is about the same price...so I said fuck it and bit the bullet.....

low wattage HPS...100whps.jpg...I got this one online from a canadian distributor for about $60 with shipping.

100watt hps kit includes: 100w hps ballast with built in ignitor, 100w hps bulb, e26 mogul socket and shipping.

heres my box pretty much finished...just waiting on my new pc fans...

if its ur first run, then i would suggest soil...its a little more forgiving. hope you can work it all out!!!

There are a ton of seed banks in canada. Why would you want to out source to a company outside of your country, like herbies or attitude. Besides not buying from people who share your citizenship, you also are running the un needed risk of having seeds cross boarders which just increases your risk factor.

Reputable Canadian seed banks are numerous as hell with a little google search. My suggestions would be:

Marijuana Seeds Canada
Vancouver Seed Bank
Vancouver Island Seed Bank
etc.. there are like a hundred most are in BC or in the Toronto Ontario area, some out on the east coast islands

My last order from overseas has prompted me to order from domestic seed banks from now on. I believe it was some form of processing that the package went through during delivery (ie. radiation) that all three packages of seeds from different breeders had zero germination. I had ordered from the same seed bank before quite a few times with no issues. Could it be a fluke? Possibly but I also would rather support my countrymen anyways regardless of how good the overseas company promotions are and the seeds travel thousands of kilometers less to get to you. I have used Vancouver Seed Bank (North Country Seeds) and have had no issues what so ever. Dud packs can happen from time to time and VSB is known to replace them relatively hassle free.
Cheers.

And there is that. I keep hearing guys have dud packs from over seas. This is probably why.

The only way I'd order overseas is if I was after a specific strain that just was not available here, such as pure Lebanese, but this isn't a fancy it would serve a specific purpose. Im still trying to find it from a SB where I am from.

Well sunni , here is the reason in detail as to why I say this. Last year I placed an order from one of the major banks in the U.K. and as always, received it in timely fashion with no issues what so ever.
Circumstances at that time prevented me from growing until a month and a half ago. Now I store seeds of all kinds for my veggie garden and other horticulture projects so that last order was stored in the same 'vault'. Like I mentioned above, I have not been able to get one single seed out of (3) 10 pks. with each pack being from a different breeder to germinate. I did get some freebies but I have not tried to germinate them as I germinated some 18 year old Romulan seeds (6/10) that needed to be germinated anyways but that also eliminated my storage for being the culprit as I also in the last few weeks germinated an assortment of herbs, tomatoes and peppers so definitely not a storage issue. I'm going to try to germinate the freebies in about six weeks and that will be the real tell in this situation.

Also, before I plant, I always closely inspect my seeds for shell damage, inferior or immature specimens, etc. All of those seeds looked pristine. After 14 days and no emergence what so ever, I inspected the seeds, a few had barely split their shells and the rest were just the same as when they were planted.

Up until that last order, I have never had a single issue with seeds both domestic and international since I started ordering cannabis seeds in 1994.

The evidence does not point to the breeder or distributor and I am 100% confident of my germination techniques. Those seeds, intentionally or not, were rendered sterile and I can only conclude it happened during transit. I still acknowledge that this could be the mother of all flukes and I received three packs of duds from three different breeders but...really?

For myself it is 'once bitten, twice shy'.

Cheers

Ive done 11 orders now, they sell single seeds too, 3500+ strains. Shipping is flat rate of 8.50. I ALWAYS get the order in 3- 5 business days.
Comes fairly stealthy too. They dont store your info either, i know this because i asked a question about a previous order, and they said they have no way to look at an order after a certain amount of time, the info is not stored. Nice.

sunni,

you forgot to ask:

Is there any chance that your apartment will fill up with raw sewage?

Is your neighbor a whore??

Interesting thread. I agree that 12-12 from seed will be the best method for starting your first stealth grow. One thing I learned right away is how big MJ plants get! My mehod has been to use CFL to veg for 30 days and then flower. The end result was a plant way too big to tuck away anywhere!!! So much for stealth! On the up side, yeild was very good. As for a first strain I am going to suggest... Norhern lights is it, for quality smoke, ease of growing for beginners, and most importantly LOW ODOR. My first few grows, I just picked what I liked from seed banks.....little did I know how strains like bubblicious and blueberry rate high on the odor scale. Stealth is about low smell and keeping things concealed and secret. Especially in your apartment situation...you are in very close proximity to others! Marijuana smeels like weed, regardless of strain, so I suggest researching low odor strains, you may be able to cover the lower aromas with quality products like ona blocks, scented candles, and plug ins. However carbon filtering your outake is still reccomended.

Since we're on the topic of odor control, I figured I would throw in my two pennies. My girlfriend is beyond paranoid, so odor control is important (are there any threads of girlfriend/wives freaking out about grows?). Hoping to use 3 methods of odor control...DIY carbon filter attached to cab, plug-in ozone generator, one of those Gonzo odor absorbing bags people have been talking about and possible an ONA gel/puck...i know..overkill to the fuckin max...but this may be the only way.
