How the heck do you keep wildlife away without putting a big red flag over the plant? Springs coming.
Battery or solar operated electric fence.
Rabbits are the worst for starts...then deer. You need a wire about 4" off the ground for bunnies and one about 3' for deer
I grew in a bog once and muskrats ate em

Brother in law brought up 2 German shepherds more than 3 years ago. Haven't seen a rabbit since.

OK, I'm well versed in solar. Cabin runs on 2 deep cycles and 100watt 12v panel. Could setup in bush for small grow. Mosquitoes? Any ideas about them, and black flies. Sure starting to sound like a Canadian thread.

Cheers fellow Canadian growers! Southern Ontario here. Grew outdoor for 30+ years and decided the hassles were too much so went indoor 2 years ago this month. Still do the odd outdoor but small-time now. Grow indoor for meds and a couple of patients. Glad to see there are still growers in Canada, I see a lot of med patients in here but not a ton of growers, didn't we invent this shit? lol

Here's the last batch from the main room, hanging & trimming right now, trimmed up one Jack The Ripper @3.7 zips yesterday, it was the runt. The larger one's are DIY crosses, JTR x Blueberry and PPP x Blueberry, monster yielders ;)

Just pulled these (still drying) little one's in 1gal pots from a 2x2 LED Tent I usually use for breeding:

Here's the current batch in the main flower room, 5gal 2x Blue Pyramids (like pulling hash off a branch, nice), 1x THC Bomb (blah, last run) at the back. At the front are 4x 5gal Blue Dream's at 6 days 12/12, just stretching, going for a lb. this round under 1x 315w LEC Sun Systems CMH. Just getting these new Sun Systems tuned in, they're freak'n awesome lights :)

Cheers :bigjoint:

Thanks, hopefully we'll get to grow these legally one day, would love to run a few in my back yard one day :)
I hear ya... and me too

Maybe you could answer a question or two for me on the outdoor?

Near Edmonton, the sun doesnt set till 1030pm in june. By sept the sun sets round 7ish. Its only by sep 21 after the solstice that the sun is 12/12 and three weeks later there is always a good chance of snow and sub zero temps...so...no chance of finishing in that situation?

And...how do you control ph outside or do you have to?

Maybe dumbish questions, but until i started growing meds i never grew a thing and killed plenty of house plants...lol

I didn't realize Edmonton was so far north, was only there once in the winter and never went back, too f'n cold for me! I've only grown outdoor in Ontario so never had to worry about it but there's a process that's used outdoor, typically used in greenhouses called light dep or light deprivation that is used in areas where the sun doesn't cooperate. They basically force the 12/12 or close to it (anything under 13-13.5 of light and most strains will flower) by covering up the greenhouse with something that will block the light. Since you'll also have a short grow season, your best bet would be to start and veg them indoor to a decent size, then throw them outdoor to take advantage of any sun, and use light dep to ensure they have a long enough flowering period to finish them. I'd imagine you only have until end of September at best before it gets too cold, count back from there and you're good to go.

As far as measuring and worrying about ph, if your soil mix is good there's nothing to worry about and quite frankly the only reason I'd ever check ph even indoor would be if I were running some form of hydro. I don't run hydro and don't even own a ph pen. imo "ph" problems (unless you're in hydro) are bull-shit and caused by other factors/issues. Very unlikely you'd ever hear outdoor growers having a conversation about how to manage ph ;)

Well...13-13.5 would make a big difference. That would add close to a month of bloom time. Think ill give it go this spring....

And i have to agree with so many problems being attributed to pH that are really something else entirely. Ive seen so many on here...all problems that i suffered myself when starting out and none of which turned out to be due to pH. I have always been diligent in watching just because thats how i learned, in a soilless medium (peat, verm and the other thing).
