Can we do 12/12 from seed in an aerogarden????

Just checking out some 12/12 stuff from other Hydro threads and was wondering if anyone tried it with AG. I might be able to get 7 plants going at once that way. THoughts? Trial and Error?

Trying to max yield as no room for Mothers and cloning etc.....and I don't wake and bake as much as I used to so if I can get 2-3 oz/crop I'd be happy.

Thanks fellow AGers!!!

Yukon: it's a piece of cake. But if you start seven you have to have some place to transplant them to within a few weeks. I like to start my meds in my A/G and then transplant them into my bubble tubs. I'll just warn you not to get greedy. A friend of mine thought what the hell, he got seven going, and tired to grow all of them in his little A/G. It quickly became an over crowded nightmare. They almost sucked his tiny reservoir dry and they didn't get enough light and air circulation. He lost half of them trying to separate them to transplant them. Not to mention that their roots got into his pump and shut the whole thing down. Of course he blamed it all on A/G.

Have you seen their starter trays? They're preformed Styrofoam rafts that will float in your reservoir and accommodate about 50 starter plugs. That's how I start my dirt vegetable garden every year. Keep your eyes open at their web site because they usually go on sale around this time of year. If you're not on their email list you might want to do that. It's free. You might also want to look for specials on bulk purchases. Their supplies are expensive but you can save a lot of money that way.

You can do just about anything in an A/G that you can do in any other hydro system, and I have, but with some things, like cloning, there really other ways that are better. Read everything that came with your unit and then go to their website and read everything they have there. One thing I love about R. I. U. is that they're very friendly to Aerogardeners and this gives us a place to exchange ideas. I think R. I. U. is the only forum that realizes that there are over a million of us. I hope that helps. Yukon: 12/12 comes under the heading of RTFB! The newer A/G seven holes models already have all the bells and whistles built in to do everything you want to grow our favorite herb, including the light schedules. Just make sure you have one of the newer seven holes models or an upgraded "Classic." Don't use their nutes or waste your money trying to grow ganja in the A/G-3 or the "Space saver 6." Do add an air stone, an aquarium air pump, an air line and a one way check valve to oxygenate the nutes in your reservoir.

If you have an older, shorter, "Calssic," model, at their website, they offer an upgrade kit with a taller 24" arm/light stand, a hood with three high intensity CFL's, instead of two, and a longer figure eight cord.

They also sell a figure eight cord separately for around $10 and a remote timer for 12/12 lighting but theirs is real expensive. The timer and figure 8 cord is for those of us who have the older "Classic" models, but you can get those accessories a lot cheaper else where. Radio Shack has the figure eight cord for around $7. The 99cents store has them for, you guessed it, 99 cents. Same cord, same wattage rating only about a foot shooter and so far that hasn't mattered.

You can get the remote light timer, like the one people use for their Christmas lights, from Harbor Freight Tools for about $5. Just about everybody has them at a higher price. The newer models already have the three lamp hood, the taller arm/light stand, the longer figure eight cord and the timed light schedules pre-programmed into the unit. They not only have a 12/12 cycle but a 24 hours on cycle if you really want to push your plants. They have all of this information at their web site. I hope that helps. HSA

Thanks HSA! I do have the Elite Extra unit with 7 pods. After reading many threads here, I've put in the stone and got a timer. I'm using fem seeds so anticipate getting 7 little girlies. Mine doesn't have a 12/12 cycle built in but the timer takes care of that. I'm just wondering if I would be better off with 1-2 plants, longer veg period then usual flower, or my yield will be better going with 7 straight into 12/12. I guess alot of this is trial and error....that's what makes it fun!

Im no pro. but I dont think its a good idea to fill all 7 pods, roots need room when they grow. Id start with maybe 3 and make sure you cover the other holes completely so NO LIGHT gets in.

I've decided to do 4 to split the difference. If I go 12/12, then maybe the roots won't get as crazy? That's my theory anyway:)
