It need nutrients from somewhere. It would be kind of like asking if someone can get fat without eating any food. 9 out of 10 times the instructions on the nutrients will provide a good balance not too hot and not cool weak.

I understand what you mean, same boat as me!!
what i recommend is getting some very good soil, after around 5 weeks start off with a small amount of nutes (few droplets) and feed them, increase this over time, i use nutes once a week on my plants and have done since 5 weeks of flowering, a little goes a long way.
just remember a few droplets increase every week or 2, you will be fine.

If you know you'r going to overdo it why don't you just stick to the charts?
Save yourself the guesswork.

Hi,
well i started using ferts around 5 weeks after, i recommend you use a good quality compost, it may cost a little more than average stuff but is much better in the long run.
Around 5 nodes (5 sets of leaves) does sound about right.
do not use any more nute's until they are older, 5 Nodes will be suffice to start using a very week formula, just use half of what it states on the label, then increase this bit by bit (use nutes every 5 days) until you get to the recommended blend and stick to that then.
Stop using fert's 2 weeks before your harvest otherwise the weed will taste/smell funny.

hope this helps.
