Can stress make a plant show sex?

So about 4 days ago i took some clones and one top. I am taking the clones so I can sex the plants BUT the plant i took the top from looks as if it may have balls! They were not there before the cut. Just wondering if the stress from cutting the top off could make it show its sex??? or if its just a build up of something???
