can anyone tell by these pics what these black splotches are? Just noticed them today after I sprayed with Safer Insecticidal Soap. I let it sit on there for a few hours then sprayed off with regular water. I've been noticing a gnat or two lurking around by growbox and have since discovered some tiny little critters in the soil, possibly larvae. I've since bought some safer and some azamax. I used the safer on three plants, only one now looks like this. Haven't used the azamax yet because it just isn't time for watering yet.

specs that might be pertinent: Soil is pretty bad, with bark and peatmoss. Holds water WAY too much, despite the perlite I added to it. The soil turns into a brick after a good watering. Temps are between 78-82 but fluctuate between that range a lot. Lots of "oh shit its 82!" and dialing it back down real fast. Humidity stays between 40 and 55. Haven't added any nutes other than what was already premixed in the soil, which I believe is .01, .03, .03. Despite this I still have burnt tips on other plants which I find VERY odd.

one last question: can I add a good dose of azamax in with my nutes. I'd like to go ahead and do a watering with foxfarm big bloom, grow big, calmagplus, and azamax, but will the azamax interfere? I have ph stuff so that shouldn't be an issue. Anyway, thanks for reading.

does that mean that the lower roots are waterlogged? what exactly does 'wet feet' mean?
exactamundo........you're growing in a bog. you knew the soil was shit, and you went with it. let the problems begin. a quality, well-balanced medium is the foundation stone of a good grow. sorry...................

I've got three bricks of coco on deck for the next grow. This was simply a learinging experience sir. And proper soil is probably the number one thing I've learned, because that's been the cause of most all of my problems. I still have a hard time with the idea of throwing away decent plants. The first two I planted are doing great. BTW any suggestions on increasing drainage in something that has already been planted. I added a layer of rocks at the bottom of their final pot before I transplanted. Added plenty of perlite. The problem is that when the top 2 inches of the soil dry up, there is still a rock hard compaction of wetness there, it may be beyond help but if anyone has any ideas. And is it the fact that this soil has wood and other crap in it the reason I'm getting pests?

What do you think about the nute burn (burnt tips) when the only nutes the plants have been getting are the MICRO amounts of premixed nutes in the soil?
