Can someone please verify I have this right...?

Okay, I have been studying cultivation and mainly hydroponics for several months now, but there are a couple things that remain unclear to me.

1. When do you start feeding your plants nutrients? From what I understand it's at 2 weeks, or once 4 sets of leaves have developed. Can someone verify this and share their opinions? For the first two weeks they just need light and humidity?

2. How many times do the roots need to be fed? The top feed system I am interested in feeds at about 3 gallons per hour. For a drip system such as this, how many times a day would I want to cycle, and how long should the cycle last?

Thanks to all you experienced growers who are nice enough to devote some time to helping us beginners.

As far as question #1, I usually start feedin once they have a couple of sets, not including the germ leaves....All they really need at that stage is Light and Water and they should do fine... but when I do start them Off its usually just 1/4strength of what is suggested.. At four sets, I would believe those girls are starving and pretty Hungry.

I do a continuous drip in a Dwc, while my lights are on and have never had a problem with it, although I think you would/should have better root growth with an alternating off/on method.. I've haven't got into all the advanced root feeding and stuff.. I try to master what I know and move forward..

I'm very interested in the method where guys don't even use drip system method...just straight Bubbles

Good luck on Your Quest for Info

As for your drip question, plants in drip hydroponics love highly oxygenated, flowing water. I have had very good success running my drippers 15 minutes on/45 minutes off around the clock.

I am using no feeder tubes and no top feeding, just bubbles (the real bubbleponics). You must have a robust air pump and 3 or 4 large airstones. This produces splashing and mist in the airspace between the water level and the netpots that is very sufficient. My roots were in the water on day 6 and I began light nutes on day 7. Look at the DWC Grotorial thread by onthedl0008. It is in a 5 gal bucket but the same can be applied to a larger tote with bigger air pump and more airstones. You'll be amazed.

Hmmm, I see, I would have to simply put my Water pump on a seperate timer, which I do have, I was trying to do less, but I may try going ahead and making this minor adjustment...

Ok, I see now, I was wondering exactly how they would be attracted to grow downwards, I understand now.... So how big of an Airpump must I get to sufficiently get this superb mist action going. Can the biggest Airpump they have at Walmart be enough to Power the 3-4 large airstones and cause this Action. I have the next to largest one 30-60gal pump, I get a little mist action off of it, but certainly not enough I would think to suffice the need. Will the next one up do the job, or must I hit Lowes or find some other pet shop that may have a bigger sized pump?
