Can Somebody Please Tell Me If Trimming Some Fan Leaves Would be a Good Idea Here?

@skunkd0c I'm gonna look for some of that sweet-tooth next man. It looks like an incredibly large yielder. How was the smoke after? You current run looks very well taken care of also. I found some mould in one of my larger buds today and was the reason some leaves were turning yellow. I opened up the bud by cutting off one of the flowers, so the inside of the bud can get some direct light and air flow. Would anybody recommend doing anything else? Humidity hits over 60 during the dark period but it's nice and dry once the lights pop on.
The sweettooth was a great yielder. the high was great too very sativa energetic high,
the taste did let it down a little was sweet but a bit bland too, little bit skunky little bit hashy but nothing very pronounced not a strong flavor

if you mean by mold "budrot", like the middle of some of the fatter colas turn to mush and have "fur" on them, then what you have done already is good

try to open out the colas, gently pull the buds away from the main stem so air can circulate between them, some colas are so dense this would be impossible to do,

i have found some very dense colas have no bud rot at all, while some sativa doms even get it , so it can just as much be a strain thing

inspect all the colas to look for the signs of rot , its almost inevitable with some strains .. i have seen chemical products that can apparently prevent it by stopping the spores , ive never tried any of these products

i do use ozone in my room, as i had some powdery mildew a while back,
i considered sulpha for it and even milk! but in the end i went with ozone and systhane ..

i didn't need the systhane i just run the ozone
daily now just in case, it helps to kill some of the nasty stuff floating around .. but i still do get some budrot but over the whole yield its a tiny amount in comparison

remember when your lights go off, you get a rapid drop in temp , this in turn causes a rapid increase in humidity, because the air cant support as much moisture at the lower temp, so you get drips of water form on your plants etc the lights also dry out the air lowering the humidity
one mistake many folk make is their venting and or floor fans, go off or decease power when the lights go off .. i do not think this is a good idea

i always keep my vents and floor fans running 24/7 on the same power level
my humidity is between 35-40 with the lights on, and 50-55 with the lights off

and i still expect to get some budrot, but just a little :)

Yea, i found it in the biggest bud there and it wasn't dense like the rest. Maybe from the mould.
Some flowers started dying on it, leading to an investigation. I leave my small fan running all night long.
It's just my first time experiencing it, so i was surprised. I'll have to upload those pic's later on as my laptop is acting up.
I did increase night time temps to 20 degrees instead of 17 over the last week too so maybe that had something to do with it also.
Did you grow the that sweettooth from seed or did you get a clone?
I was just wondering where i could pick up some seeds online.

To be honest m8 it maybe possible to completely control your environment .. ie when your lights switch off, or just before they do, heaters and de-humidifers come on, etc, you could maybe manage the humidity perfectly,

but all this is a added cost and makes things quite complex, so i myself, have decided not to do this, im a bit lazy too lol, and i just put up with a tiny bit of bud rot,

with my current crop, , i am not expecting any rot at all from my Afghanis, they grow pretty dense colas, but last time round i found 0 bud rot,

my Jamaican grape. gets a tiny bit of bud rot in the middle of the larger colas, which are not that dense so i feel it is strain related too . but overall its tiny

maybe less than .5 oz of bud rot out of 40-50 oz of bud .. so bud rot accounts for only 1% of the yield

that budrot chemical i looked it up again, ive never tried it myself

Rot Stop
The dreaded 'Bud Rot' affects all growers at some point. It's caused by a fungal disease and can literally rot your buds from the inside out. The first signs are a visible fluff on your flowers. Spray immediately with Rot Stop and the special bacteria it contains attack the fungal spores. Also use it as you're going into heavy flowering as a preventative. A real crop saver!

the sweettooth was from seed from barneys farm .. i got a few phenos from it, all pretty different bud wise
the structure of all of them had this crazy side branching trait, each branch would fork out into many side branches, so each branch almost looked like a plant in its own right, this is what helped it produce a huge yield, as it simply smothered itself with buds everywhere, each turned into a nice cola ..

i did a grow diary thing back then, it has more info about sweettooth and some pics of the finished bud

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/240168-barneys-sweet-tooth-nft-grow-3.html#post3464169

you might have to go through a few phenos to find the same plant i found ..

next ill be growing Angel heart from mr nice (mango haze x afghan skunk) and the Flav from tga seeds (romulan x space queen) im hoping to get a nice yielding sativa dom from these as this kind of structure suits my garden more than indicas
both these 2 from what ive looked at seem to produce large good yielding potent plants, and hopefully nice tasting too

i normaly get seeds from everyonedoesit.com ive got them from there for many years, before attitude seed bank was around, ive never used attitude, but i have "heard" they are "ok" and do ship to america, im in England so i dont have any problem getting seeds .. i dont know if everyonedoesit ship to america or not )

If that bud is virtually ready like at 8weeks of 9 or whatever id just chop the whole branch at the top off now,
if its got a few weeks to go, chop out all the rotten bits and leave it on the plant, but get rid of all the rot dont leave it among the plants unless you are going to chop it all down real soon

i worry myself too that it will spread, but it never has

also when you are drying the bud, remove any bud rot you find out of the colas before you dry them, just to be on the safe side put all the nasty rotten bits to one side, and decide what to do with them later, give them to a friend or something, then dry all the nice bits somewhere else safely away from the rot

not tried pink kush it sounds real nice,, i was looking at the cali collection seeds recently many of those strains by the breeder swerve look great, lots of og kush and sour fuel lemon type strains the seeds are not cheap though but they are still on my list

I beg to differ DGA.
The leaves more close the buds get more light and does increase their size.
Look at a SCROG grow.
If those lower secondary+ stems didn't get that light they'd remain small like on a standard tree grow, with the rest ending up popcorn.
Instead they all look like the primary cola(s).
I'll take a pic of all the fan leaves I trimmed over the past week that are in a paper bag, and then my canopy and you won't believe what's left and what I took.
You're not really differing from what I said at all. You're ensuring that those secondary branches receive good light via the way you're training the plants. I'm all for that. I do the same thing using lots of light and lots of reflectors. I'm saying don't trim away your fan leaves in order to let light get lower into the canopy. If you can see the leaves lower in your canopy, they're getting light. If they weren't getting light, they'd be Black, and you wouldn't be able to see them.

Hey guys i just thought i's let you know that my drying process happened too quickly. Had relatives down and couldn't check on them during. They were nearly dry after 4 days. They smell a bit grassy :(

I'm currently curing them hoping for a little fragrance to return but potency seems to have taken a major dive. I didn't even know this was possible! Well, not to this extent. Thinking of turning this into an excuse to go making some hash. What do you guys think?

if they where over dried or dried to fast you should next time save some fresh stems in the freezer and if it happens again just throw a stem in each jar to give them a little hydration so they are not so dry then cure as normal.

That's a nice way of doing it. I'll have to remember that. Luckily some were still wet enough, but as you know curing grassy weed just results in grassy cured weed. So im thinking of making hash out of everything. Or should i give it a month and see?
