if u seen my other thread im having problems with my mh so i have a 400w orange hps for flowering can i use that to veg?

Depends on whom you ask - I prefer HPS for vegging b/c it has more lumens then a comparable MH.

I've never had a stretching problem.

im just new to hps (today in fact) do u use an orange hps for all of it? why do people go on so much about haven a mh blub then?

i am useing a hps right now and from what i can tell you is that the mh is way better for veging with

so is mh much better?

well, they are 2 dif lights all together.. the hps gives off more red light which is used more during the flowering stage of plant life.. the MH bulb gives off max blue light which is the most beneficial during the veg state of the plant.. to me, using a mh in veg and hps in flower would just maximize your results.. i would sooner use an HPS through the whole grow rather than a MH through the whole thing...

imho, the best is to use blue spectrum flouro's so you can keep the bulbs right on the plant helping contain the height, then switching to a HPS when you start to flower.. that is just me though :p

The "blue" spectrum of a MH is supposed to better replicate the sun's spectrum as the MJ plant is vegetating naturally, and the "orange" HPS is supposed to be closer to the sun's spectrum when the MJ would be flowering in nature.

People have said that a plant vegged under an HPS will be stretchier then the same under a MH, but I've never run a test to compare.

Looking at it purely scientifically, I want as many lumens hitting my plant as possible, and HPS has more then MH.
