Can I switch between MH and HPS during flowering?

I know that there are a few pros and cons to using either MH or HPS during flowering. MH supposedly puts out more UV and thus more resin and trichs, and HPS supposedly increases the bulkiness of the buds.

The 600w HPS broke a week into flowering and these plants have been under a conversion MH for 3 weeks now. Everything is coming along nice, the buds are tight but REALLY sticky and frosty . The replacement HPS shows up either later today or tomorrow.

My question is this; will it harm the plants if they get 4 weeks under the HPS and then a week under the MH to finish? Or if I went a week HPS and a week MH?

Thanks, +rep to all good info kiss-ass

like u said man the mh will more than likely produce more trichs on tha buds but may not be as dense on
the finished product ive had the sam problem before, but if u say they are lookin good and u dnt have the hps i would just
finish out with the mh an just save the hps bulb for the next harvest, if u switch now u may get i little more weight nuthing to really make a diff
though an the buds wnt be as resinous. hope it helps bro

I guess I could just leave well enough alone, but I'd really like the added weight of the HPS (who wouldn't!). My big worry is that if I make the switch it will somehow freak the plants out.

all up to u though. would love to see sum pics

Yeah bro definitely go to the HPS, the added weight is definitely worth it. As far as your palnts getting freaked out due to the change of light spectrum I do not see that happening. Alot of growers mix the color spectrum between red/bue during the flowering phase because they say the plant recieving both spectrums give the best of both worlds. Granted that those growers give red/blue spectrum throughout the flowering phase not switching halfway through. Go for it! :leaf:

Hey just a word of advice, there was a great post here a while back that told that although the weight of the buds will be more and the buds will be more dense by using a HPS, the quality of the weed would be shitty compared to using a MH. The guy even said that he wouldn't ever flower with HPS unless he was gonna sell the stuff because the quality is just uncompareable. So, I recommend unless you're gonna sell this weed (which I don't think you will) go with a MH for flowering, and add in 4 2700K CFLs to supplement the missing warmer spectrum. This'll insure you will get the best quality bud, without missing out on too much of the dencity.

Just my thought bro.

Oh and if someone can link that page for me I'd appreciate it very much. I tried looking for it but I just can't find it :(

Cheers :)

if it helps man my last harvest i did two small plants to see if it did anything call it a stoners experiment lol
bud i flowerd for five weeks with the hps bulb and the last three i used my mh bulb i had the weight and
with the change in bulbs i definitly saw the change in resin production on the buds so in a sense i got the best of both worlds
anytime u need some help man just holla and much abliged for the plus rep i returned the favor
