Yes a uv light tube will help. I would not put it under your plants though. You should put it at the top and allow the light to reach the top of the canopy. Any thing that doesn't get light below the canopy can be removed. I would NOT remove anything from the top to allow light to the bottom. Just my opinion though. If you do not want to remove the under growth you can hang your uv lights vertically. I've heard claims that all the undergrowth filled in pretty well. If you are using a T5 high out put fixture I would use these bulbs: http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/uv-lighting-red-sun-t5-lamp and these too: http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/korallen-zucht-fiji-purple-t5-lamp. Both of these together really help promote bud growth. They are at the perfect spectrum so no energy is being wasted producing yellow and green light. Check out this thread for more info with aquarium lighting. https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/358190-led-without-leds-my-first.html. The pr0f has really done all the work just read.

They make fluro lights now that are the same light spectrum as led's. So it's the perfect light spectrum for your plants. Meaning in theory no wasted light is produced. Look at the links and you will know more.

Agreed, its meant for supplemental light. So adding it vertically wil def help. I doubt your buds will grow quicker, but healthier and stronger. If you get the sun red and those purple fiji, it will help your bud. The red is supposed to help resin production, and promote internode growth (bud growth). The blue lights and white lights are great for veg. but check this link for more scientific research. -------> https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/358190-led-without-leds-my-first.html
The bottow third of my plant is completely bare. For me I've seen bigger buds up top. So in the end I get large grade A nuggs instead of leaving the undergrowth on, and ending with lots of B and C grade nugs.
