Right folks, I have just put my carbon and my fan up well about 2 days ago now, I turned it on and there air blowing out the exhaust (ducting) coming out off the tent sat on top off it, So doesnt this mean it's a exhaust fan that sucks air out off the tent and sucks odors out? My ducting coming from the fan then through a vent then, now it's currently sitting on top of the tent at the minute it Actually blows air out that's the air and ducting that will be getting blowing out off a near by vent just above the tent in the wall (Lucky) hahaha, I screwed the vent off the wall and you can see outside, So I'm going to give the vent on the wall a little clean and attach it up, Happy days.

Just I wanted to get things right I would rather have my carbon and fan blowing air out off the tent rather than sucking air in Mainly for odor control and fresh air, I understand it can be used as two things (the fan) connected to the carbon this where I get confused lol.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated folks ,Thanks.

P.S I've put a few threads on lately, I bet certain folk are thinking why's he posting again!?!? Just this is my first time growing in propper conditions so I just wanted to ask some questions because yous are more experienced than me, Anyway thanks.

Put your filter and fan inside the tent. Put the filter on the intake side of the fan, blow the exhaust out of the tent.

So you put your fan in backwards?...just flip it around if that's the case

Put your filter and fan inside the tent. Put the filter on the intake side of the fan, blow the exhaust out of the tent.

That's the thing when the I look.at the ducting down from.top off the tent and when the fan is in, The air is blowing out the ducting, So its right.

It's not put in backwards, I just wanted to clarify that it's a exhaust pulling air out off the tent, Because when I put the ducting on my face coming from the fan it blows my face off.

I did mine the same way bro
We were wrong

You wat the filter as high up as possible with fan pulling air in thru the filter into fan out of tent\room.

It pulls in the hot smelly air from the top of the room scrubs it clean then expells it.

At the bottom of your tent\room have incoming cool air coming in.
The fan pulls the cooler air up thru the canopy( lightly doesn't count as a fans circulation) cooling the whole room and keeping odors under control.

Here's mine 20180906_015245.jpg I have an air cooled hood so the air gets pulled into the filter then into the fan
Over the bulb then back out thru a vent in the wall.
It helps keep the heat and odors down.
As a bonus since my temperares are down in my roon so is my relative humidity.
So it helps again.
Hope some of my rambling helped

Yes exaust would mean to blow out of the tent

Yeah I noticed the air cooled hood, Lovely little setup you have there mate, Did you look at my little tent setup on the link I uploaded on another thread my dad said the filter and the fan needs to be as high as it can, So do you think I've done everything right with my little tent setup? It's my first grow and I'm cautious I want to get everything right. Lovely.Lovely setup by the way buddy.

Or it can be pulled in passively intake wise

Yeah I've read about that, So for that to happen you just switch your fan the other way round and it will suck the air into the tent? Why is this method used i get the exhaust bit and the smell but why would you want fresh air blowing into your tent? Just to keep fresh air moving around? I had every port hole on my tent tight today and turned my filter on and the full tent sucked inwards lol so its 100% working as a exhaust , Which I want it to for the odor side off things. Btw I'm a noob and I'm still learning as you can tell. cheers for the reply.

You keep your fan pulling air through the filter and out of the tent. It’s used to create negative pressure in the tent/room. It keeps the smells from escaping since it has nowhere to go but through the filter. On top of that Itll draw air into the tent at the same either through the vents at the bottom or any cracks that may be in it. If your doing it right the sides of the tent should suck in some. In my case the door on my room will shut and latch lol.

Yeah a think I was setting it up all right I had my dad as a helping help he knows nothing about grow tents but he's electric when it comes to d.I.y and putting things up etc Anyway I closed all the vents on the tents earlier on and I switched the fan on and the tent just sucked right in lol So does this mean it's a good exhausted tent lol I won't leave all the vents open when my plants are finally in I'll leave a few open down the bottom for air to get in then close them on the dark periods.

you want the sides to suck in slightly, this means youre getting the negative pressure you want.
If it looks like the tents trying to pull itself in you need a little more airflow in.

I just have a single fan that sits on top of my filter outside the tent. Air gets sucked out from the top of the tent and blown thru the filter. Passive intake on low vents on opposite side.

Perfect just leave a couple open and you should be golden.

Understood dude, I swear the amount off info I've learnt off this forum is unbelievable, There's a link on this thread that shows you my setup I don't know if you have looked or not.

So you have your fan on top off your tent and obviously your carbon filter inside the tent? I got told it's better to have your carbon and your fan inside the tent I don't know why like, I'm going to google it after I've wrote this , I'm presuming your growing in a grow tent to? What size tent mine.is 1x2 1x2 200 I don't know how many to put in I've germed 6 seeds lol

Im in a 10x10 tent, theyre close to being pushed to flower and making plenty of smell already, but you cant smell it at all until you open the door.
My filter is outside the tent. its like 4ft tall and the fan is mounted on top of it blowing into it. It pulls hot dirty air out of the tent thru insulated ducting and pushes it through the filter outside.
Most carbon filters are just a can full of carbon pellets that has a bunch of holes in it. It doesnt matter which way the air flows through it, it functions the same way.
The only downside to this is that you cant use a pre-filter, which I dont need in my space, my filter is solely for smell control.
