Can I get an opinon on how things are looking?

I'm new and posted here yesterday - very pleased with the help I've received thus far. :) And I know I need a fan, I forgot the past TWO times I ran out to the store! Ah!

So, hypothetically, of course, if I had these plants that are just about a week old... How would they be?
I was told to put a little more soil on top of them in my last thread, so they're a little "shorter" because of the half inch or so of soil I added. I had them in little clear plastic cups, like 3 inches deep (and simply placed them in the red cups, and not a transplant as per advice) and can see roots on the bottom and working their way around on three of these 14 pups. Only a little bit, they just hit the bottom. Not giving them nutes for a while, and they're in Miracle Gro Organic Potting Mix 10/5/5.

So.

Time to transplant?
Looking ok so far?
One of them seems to have had its leaf eaten away at, first one in second row... But I don't think I have pests? I spray my leaves daily with a spritz or two of water.

Another question about lighting. I have them on 24/0, but I've had to turn them off for a couple minutes a few times for things like rearranging lights, and again for a quick second to take these pics, leaving only the regular lighting from my room. Can this short period of time shock or harm them?

Thanks guys. :)

edit-wow that sure seemed to flow a lot better in my head than it does reading it :p

first advice - i would move your light closer (being careful not to burn your plants) - they are stretching.

brief light outages will not bother them at all. In fact, it is light during the dark periods (not vice-versa) that the plants do not like.

To me they look pretty good but they seem to be streching for light a bit due to the lights being a bit far from the plants, i would lower the lights a bit more. Also the roots should not be exposed to any lights, but for now just leave them in the double cup you have and let them grow some more before replanting them. The 24 hour light with some interuptions during vegging in the early stages should not be a issue from what ive heard, but during flowering i would try to have 12/12 and not bother them.

Thats some major stretching I would replant them almost up to the first original leaves. Then they can get a second chance to bush out. Bring the light way down on them then bush away!!! 13 is a lot plants to manage...are you keeping them all??

And since there are no dark periods now, that's a nonissue, eh? ;)

I started off in a grow box (which they are now sitting on) with a 15w fluorescent tube.. which was easily 6-8 inches above the cups. That's when stretching started. Since I changed the setup the other night, I noticed less upward growth but more leaves, so I thought the new lighting was OK.

How is this new setup? All less than a handwidth away, though the pictures might make it seem otherwise. I have them hanging from a preinstalled shelf using binder rings (two sets, in case one fails) and rubber bands to attach the rings to the strip. Ultimate in ghetto rigging, no?

whatever works! and right - no dark periods so a non-issue.

you'll know the lights are the right distance when they stop reaching for it and start getting bushy.

I fully expect to lose some along the way, so no, not really. If it gets to be too much I could always kill some and use them as fertilizer, right? There is no way I can afford enough soil to put them all in 3 gallon containers when the time comes, anyway.

you'll be weeding out the males too. not really useful as fertilizer/soil, unless you have a lot of them and compost them first.

Right, I know I will need to get rid of the males, but I still need to take care of them till sexing, so I didn't bring them up.

I'm thinking I messed up the lighting. Instead of using splitters, maybe I should just have them all hang straight down? I could buy a couple $3 power strips, hook them up to a main one, and just use socket-bulb converters so I can get maybe 3 bulbs to hang straight down from each strip? This way seemed like a good idea at first...

get used to it - i'm still retrofitting/farting around/second-guessing with my system ever since i finished it - still not "exactly" right yet :)

I'm broke though lol. And currently without a set of wheels. Walmart is right down the street, but I don't want them to get to know me. If I keep coming back for gardening supplies... I might attract attention.

I don't want anyone to become the wiser, so I can't have anyone drive me anywhere else, and people don't trust me to drive their cars hahahaha. So, my solution? Buy stuff that no one would suspect. I just can't keep it up.

I suppose it is better safe than sorry but it is legal to have a garden. I'm thinking back on all the times I bought garden supplies and didn't give it a second thought since veggies was the goal. Personally, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

A wise man once said "a paranoid man is a safe man." :) Besides, what'll I say if my room mates see me walk in with too much suspicious stuff? Say it's a birthday gift for my grandma? :p

I got it planned out. :) We all have our own bedrooms so at least I have privacy from peeping eye.s

peeping eyes arn't the problem, the smell is what gets the attention. where do you live? If you live in the west, I would look into getting your cannabis card. Otherwise, look online. You can always have things delivered to a friends house. You would be surprised to how many people have legit, non-marijuana grow rooms. It's not unheard of people buying supplies for their tomato gardens. Also look for a local hydro store, they usually ask as little questions possible because they don't want to scare away customers(and they usually grow too!!). Don't sweat, just be smart and keep it low key. Your seeds look good, you might want to look into a HPS light when your get closer to flowering, otherwise you will minimize your yield. Keep asking questions and do your homework, you'll be smoking your home-grown before you know it. happy medicating...:joint::joint:

I transplanted into the 16 ounce red cups. I did it hastily, and kind of.. smashed them into the new cups. But now they are covered much better with soil, and the roots have much more room. I'll update later! I gotta run!

I dont live in the west. And I can cover the smell so no worries. :)

UPDATES :D

The plants seem to really really like being closer to the lights. So I got eight 23 watters running 24/0 (1600 lumens each), and each cup drains into the one below it. I got a fan blowing DOWN from the shelf on top, and it's enough to ventilate and make the stems quiver gently. This current rig is pretty damn cheap, all it costs is like

3 bucks per power strip
1.50 per socket-bulb converter
1.50 per 2 way splitter
7 per pack of four 1600 lumen bulbs

For a total of like 16 bucks per 4 lights. I'm thinking about redoing it and just hanging them all vertically, so they can get a lot closer. I started out this way because it spread the light nicely.

Am I on the right track? Am I lookin' good for these being planted 8 days ago? Will I need more light soon (or, as the case be, some more now?)

lol I'm like a worried mother with them. Thanks :D

with cfl's like that you dont want them straight down, they give of more light sideways or on a angle light that....your setup is ok...grow on bro...and one thing if the light is to hot for your hand its to hot for the plants...
