Can I Build My Own Aerogrow?

Im just about finished my first Aerogrow grow and its been great, the only thing is its only good for 1 nice plant and seeing as it gonna be a 50/50 split with my buddy I want to grow at least 4 plants next time and I dont want to pay out for 4 complete units.
What if I made myself a bigger resivour and added some stones and a pump and just bought the light, and then just hooked it up to some timers!!!

Okay we got all the gear in today and gathered the tiny bits we still needed at a local shop and finished what we could today. Its a shame we only could find a blanc crate so we had to spray it a couple of times (still couple of times to go tho :()

As you can see we used a 400L pump for our dripping system. We closed the end of the hose to build some extra pressure and to get a steady flow on all four dripping points.
We have two airstones on the topper side which we can take out really easy. We even made a drain in it, picture with the plastic pen, the hole is this thin it takes about 15 minutes to empty when the pump is down but tiny enough to not run empty when we might forget to put it back in. On the topside we have, when filled, about 6cm of water before it automaticly runs out. Still need to get one airstone for the downside, spray it up a couple of times, drill four holes for the cups and we are good to go!! Cant wait!

:-) Yep, the aerogarden does have a drip system - that's all it does really!

The marketing for the aerogarden is dodgy as hell - there is no way that it is an aeroponic system! It is basically a DWC (deep water culture) system without the airstone!!!
I think the aerogaren relies on water falling from the pods into the resevoir to oxygenate the water - seems to work OK for herbs etc. and I have seen one or two people use it for weed without an airstone and get OK results.

Im not sure now but when I bought the thing you can take the top growing section right off and there is no pipes for water or anything. anyway ive got most of the stuff to start making my set up soon. Im confident on the light setting but im unsure about the pump and air settings, how long do you run the pumps for? are they always on or is there a schedule for them as well.
thaks for all the help so far

Seriously... did you even looked at the device when it was running? You can clearly hear the water fall. Curious to your machine make us some pics to make sure its the same we are talking about. When you take the top part off it should have a foot connected where a small waterpump is in.

For your new construction i would recommend leaving the pump and air on for 24/7 like i will... with the waterpump you can still make a interval of about 10 minutes but the air definitly 24/7.

I developed a simple DIY system that can be used for a small grow yet easily expanded. Check it out

So Ive had a good look at my aerogrow pro and the only water that I can see is the water being move by the pump and what looks like condensation dripping from the top (underside ) of the root cover and what ever is being thrown up by the bubbles, sorry if Im being retarded here:roll: anyway here is some pics of the plant white widow, 2nd week of flowering. We just used the nuit packs that came with the aero and we gave it some bud blaster at the start of the 12/12 and for thethe first week. We had a little browning of the leaf tips but she seems ok now
