Are 1 gallon smart pots ok in an indoor grow 5x5 tent 1000w light (I have two tents one for veg and one for flower)
I am able to fit more plants in with 1 gallons or should I go with 3 gallons, I know bud growth and yield correlates to root mass correct?

Thanks

how many plants do u want to grow

3 gallons plants the best u will do is 4 oz per plant

personally i use 7 gallon planters i can run up to 6 plants in a 5x5 area normally i do just 4 at a time avg 6 to 10 oz per plant

like they said, it's up to you.. you can run, more smaller plants, and yield less per plant, or run less, bigger plants, and yield more per plant.. it's really six of one, half dozen of the other

idk about veg time, but i've always heard the number 1 gallon per month of growth..
That sounds like a crock of shit to me. No offense RB...

I think @GroErr has some good data on his grows regarding veg time to pot size and yield comparisons... Maybe he can chime in here.

Also, IMO, there's a big difference between a 5gal bucket and a 5gal fabric pot

I've seen it too around the site and from various users.

I feel that its just an old growing paradigm that hasn't been let go of yet. It certainly isn't incorrect, just too much of a blanket statement for me to accept...

so like I said more root mass greater yield. So I should at least be using 3 gallons or up right?
I have used 5 liter (1 1/2 gal.?) smart pots and veged for up to 4 wks.,usually 3, under cfls. They are designed to handle a bigger root mass than a reg pot. I try to get as much root growth as I can during veg.(attention to soil and additives FOR root growth). Back in the day there was, maybe still is, a poster on riu that was all about roots,I learned a load from his posts. Sorry i can't dredge up his name( I do know everything, I just can't recall it all at any given moment),I'm sure someone knows.U can tell this guy knows his soil. Find him, read him, he will move U way ahead on pots, pot sizes, soil, roots, and yields with a strong root plan.

1 gallon of medium per foot of plant height is a general rule of thumb to follow. There are many variables to account for so this is just a good place to start.

I imagine he is referring to Uncle Ben.

This was like, at least 5 years ago. I would offer the suggestion that newer peeps go back to the old threads( if they weren't lost) and brows them. there is a pile of old school knowledge out there.
