Alrigty, Ive made my first bubble cloner and Ive got a few questions for the water people....

1. Is the stem supposed to be submerged??

2. Is the stem supposed to sit above the water and just get "splashed" ???

3. Do you leave the air pump running continuously??

4. Should there be like a shitload of big bubbles... or should there be just a buch of little bubbles??

I wouldn't say I was an expert but I have a bubble unit.
3. Yes let it run all the time, make sure the air pump sits a little higher than the unit...it will last longer, and if you have a power down you won't ruin your pump as quickly.
4. You would be better served with more bubbles but little ones are usually sufficent...I have three airstones in my 10 gallon unit.

And for numbers 1 and 2 do you mean stems or roots?

I mean the stem... it hasnt rooted yet.

Kinda looks like it may be rotting slightly- brownish... is that alright or should I clip that nasty shit off??

depends; they'll root either way, but i've had quicker results by keep the water below the stems/netpot, so the bubble break and splash them. this is the dwc version of aero :p

I have a very similar problem, some leaves on my seedling are drooping and are like a strange muddy brown from the tips to about half way up leaf. It looks rotten. my stem looks fine but my leaves do not, any idea what might be causing this..all my other plants are fine? I don't put my stems in the water, I'm assuming that you aren't using rockwool? I use rockwool so I will let a real guru answer your question. And as for the bubbles usually the bigger the better but like I said little ones will get you by. What are you using for a pump and what kind of airstone..I'm just curious. I actually have three two big bars and a disk, I'm think about adding scuba steve he would look really cool in my hydro unit.

Scuba Steve is really cool but my fish might miss him and this...

would be better for security.

I do what KP does I put them in rockwool and then I have a little drip that keeps them moist and the bigger the bubbles the more splash that you will get to keep them wet too. Your roots will hit that water before you know it. And after the roots hit the water I really don't use the drip that much, really no need since the roots are sitting in the water and the bubbles are keeping things nice and moist.

i missed the brown thing

clip off the dead part, treat it like a new cutting; dip in rootone, and stick em back in there.

the idea of rooting with bubbles is that the bubbles splash the netpots, and keep it all moist. keeping this in mind, you want bubble that are small, so the sit on the surface of the water, then pop. big bubbles don't do much splashing.

KP knows more than me, but I have a lot of bubbles going on. OOPPPSSS my bad I was thinking you were asking about quantity of bubbles not size sorry. Although bigger bubbles have more O2 in them. I just got a fogger do either of you two know much about them? I haven't started to use it yet but from what I uderstand its kind of like a floating roaming mister. Good luck Graf..have fun with it.

The bubbles are also very relaxing..ahhh.
I'm gonna be using the fogger soon I'll do a post it looks really cool, I'm just wondering how it's gonna get around those roots....or if it even needs to. It didn't come with any sort of documentation.

Oh and all you hydro bubblers ou there it's good to get one of these, they are good to prevent damage during a power down..if your pump starts siphoning water then it's gonna break..I've replaced two in the last week...247PetShop.com - Aquarium, Cat, And Dog Supplies Superstore At Your Fingertips 24/7

be more than happy to babe! i just got some new flat containers, i'm thinking of what to do with them. they're about two feet by three feet, will hold eight plants comfortably (heh, see my thread, kp get's her feet wet if you think plants can't be grown close together) or 18 tightly fitted, sog table.

anyway, sure! pix pleez!

I never had any luck trying to root them directly in the DWC. I always found it easier to put them in a humidity dome in rockwool starter cubes for a week or so till they get some sort of root action, then throw them in the bubbler. I'd like to see someone pull it off, cause either I'm dumber than a box of rocks or just unlucky. KP is right about the brownish coloring you got. I have seen this personally, just cut it till you get past the brown growth and do the whole root hormone thing again. Good Luck.

smokerE, look at my thread, kp get's her feet wet; you'll see in the first couple of pages that i rooted my cuts directly in the dwc system. it works great, no need for rootone (which i use anyway :p) and i get roots through the net pots in about two weeks.
