Cabinet or no cabinet for closet?

I've been going back and forth about my new setup. Currently I have a closet that's 3.5ft W x 2ft D x 9ft H. I have 3 plants all in their own cabinets. I've been thinking of building one large cabinet for the closet or converting the closet itself. I'll exhaust into the roof which is something I don't currently have. My main issue is smell. I'm leaning towards the cabinet to contain it as it creates another barrier from outside the room. Most curious is a 6in exhaust would be good enough to clear the smell if I just converted the closet??

A 6" fan with a good carbon filter will take care of most the smell.
If u have somewhere to get rid of hot smelly air and somewhere to get cool clean air to bring in than just use the closet.
The "extra barrier" as u call it just takes up room and will be little hot pockets of stink.
Its easier to cool one big area than three small ones

Good luck

Convert the whole thing. Barriers aren't helpful for smell. 6" fan + carbon filter exhausting to attic or outdoors + a speed controller because the 6" is overkill. The idea is you want to create negative pressure in the grow room to make every leak a intake for air (not an exit/escape path), only way air should escape is through your exhaust (filtered), all leaks will only let air in...

I have a very similar sized closet.
I cut some plywood the dimensions of the closets floor and drilled a bunch of 1" holes in one piece then simply laid it on top of floor edging the other I use as a lid where the shelf used to be. Cut some more plywood to fit as a door and used some 1x1 lumber screwed vertically to the sides of the closet on either side of the door to help seal the light in. I used some dowels and drilled through the door into the 1x1's then glued the dowels in. you just lift the door on and hang it off the dowels. Closet door closes over that and no one is the wiser. A 6" charcoal filter sits on the top and I wired a 3 way fan speed controller onto an extension chord for controlling the fans noise and temps. mylar covers the entire closet and Im running a 400w MH in a cool tube.

Closet temps inside the grow area are under control but the top of the closet was getting a bit hot so I cut the drywall above the doors and installed a couple vent covers. Works great and temps keep steady. slowing the fan down worked great to keep it qiuet and I just turn the lights off and fan to a minimum if I have a lady over. Probably not something youd want to do during flower but I'll take pussy over pot any day so sometimes it needs to be done with a closet grow.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to covert the whole closet. It's only about 60 cubic feet. So based on some filter calculations I found online I bought a 4in 200cfm phresh filter and 190 cfm inline fan. Also got a fan controller cause I figure that may even be too much at 100%. Once my current grows are done. I'll line it with poly film. Just need to look at new LED panel for the bigger space. Thinking 400w LED for 3-4 plants.
