C99 growers here?

Never know he was supposed to be entering it at the Denver Cup but that is cancelled unless they find another place to do it and their is another cup he's going to enter. But just on the name alone it might just sway judges when they smoke so much dank they can't even decide the best. At least I imagine for me. :bigjoint:

But I will wait until I see a few grows on forums it's going to happen just like everything else with even half the hype as Brothers Grimm.

It was an IBL supposedly so just from old seeds he could have it. I don't believe he mentioned using a male from another breeder but I have my doubts he even has the same mother possible sure but I doubt he would be the only one to claim to have the same cut... Arjan for sure possibly even Shantibaba it's not like anyone could prove otherwise. Now with genetic testing of weed people won't make up so many fishing stories but that still has a long way to go but 5 years from now we may be fully legal we won't even buy seed just breeder fresh selected cuttings. :bigjoint:

BG said they dont have the orignal c99 father, but did have the Princess mother. I am going to go look if TGA (subcool) helped them on father plant.

The day I could go get some new strain clones at a shop here in FL, is going to be great. I will prob be dead before then thou at this rate.

Nothing to show yet. I just put one each of female seeds and blimburn c99. We still have a chance for frost but I will move them inside at night. Getting a little head start. I turned my holes and added down to earth all purpose and espoma garden tone this last fall. They should be good to go.

The prob with BG is they're only going to be sold in rec legal states unless we get a underground
network going.

Easy now! Just a quick question for all you fellow c99 heads... I am growing out 4 x female seeds c99 in nft with large scrog net 2m x 1m.

Plants are flying, I'm probably going to flip in the next 5 days or so... Planning to leave about 30% of the scrod net for growth post flip. Is this enough?

I'm currently looking at choosing a plant to take my cuts from. All plants are very uniform in all aspects (from seed) except for one, which is about the same size/leaf blade width/etc - but is displaying a crazy mutation. 3 leaves coming out of each side of each node, and thus many more side branches - at each node 3 side branches also grow (one for each leaf), leaving a total of 6 side branches in place of 2 at every node - and, I would assume, bud sites?

Question is, was this caused by something I did, or purely a genetics thing? Over feed of nitrogen perhaps? Plants look lovely no other signs of stress. There are no mutations in leaf shape or anything else, so far as I can tell... Just number of leaves from each node. 'Nodes are also very closely spaced.

I have taken a couple of pictures, what do you guys think...

Keeper? Any input would be much appreciated!

Polyploid mutation. Could be a good thing .I'd keep I
Tfor sure could greatly increase ur yield on a sativa..

Hi doniawon,

Thanks for the knowledgable response - nice to put a name to the mutation! Took several cuts of it, along with a few from the other plants.

It be very interesting to see how it turns out, especially as I have 3 other plants all with very similar characteristics, in the same set up. Should give a fairly good idea of how the polyploid mutation affects final yield. I only have one indoor grow previous to this (from the same batch of seeds), pulled 0.85g/w + dried and manicured,+ loads of popcorn for bubble. I would love to be able to beat that this time (with minor improvements I have made to set up, and more aggressive lollipopping pre flip!), then smash it the time after with clones from my badass mutant! A mans gotta dream...

After my first n only run with apollo I would have to agree she must b pruned n lolipopped to favor her center cola or u will b making hash...which isn't that bad.

Cool, thanks for the input - I will let you know how she goes! And as for hash, C99 blows away anything I've ever tried. Trippy! I went to a comedy night and smoked a .5 joint of the 73 micron to myself. Nearly gave myself a hernia laughing!

Found this on another site, I believe 'Billy Bud' was the author. Interesting stuff:

"
During my research of polyploid cannabis. I have come up with what I believe to be the initial source of this super weed. It was said, but not confirmed, that UBC Professor David Suzuki, doing genetic research (1977), created a polyploid plant (tetraploid) by treating it with colchicine based upon the work of Menzel/Brown and Warmke. This plant was originally a hybrid of Thai (sativa) x Purple Afghani (indica) and was then treated with Colchicine (Autumn Locus bulb). There are certainly other clones that were created by other breeders, especially in Hawaii, but the initial commercial tetraploid was developed in B.C. by the Canadian Government and UBC for Cancer patients. I would estimate that the THC content of polyploids to be well over 30% and maybe up to 40% if grown correctly. Fully grown mother tetraploid plants have been known to sell for $10,000. Clones have been known to sell for $1,000 in the past compared to the standard $5-7 range for diploid clones. Tetraploids are extremely difficult to clone (10-20%) unless special care is taken. The end product is far superior to anything commercially available and even compared to excellent connoisseur diploid product due to the doubling of THC. See my Secrets of the Pink Kush book for updated information on this and more topics.

The resulting F1 hybrid seeds were then grown out and used for cancer patients at UBC. Allegedly somebody stole one of the clones that the Canadian Government and David Suzuki, supposedly, had created. It became famous and was then re-created by treating other plants and sold out east as Diesel and as OG Kush on the west coast and as ChemDawg in Colorado. These were all colchicine treated plants based upon their work and the popularity of UBC Chemo. Please note that, according to Sam the Skunkman AKA David Watson, David Suzuki denies that he created this plant. Please note that David Suzuki has always been a government employee and as such his veracity cannot be completely trusted in this world of ours. He would deny it simply because he would lose his job. I do not face that fear.

My understanding is that some clones were stolen. This would make more sense. Diploid and Tetraploid crosses produce Triploids that are infertile due to chromosome mismatch. These are known as "Terminator Seeds" (e.g. Diablos Pink Kush) as customers must buy seeds for each crop due to infertility. The resulting generations of seeds will be diploid. Triploids can be treated again, with Colchicine, to create a Hexaploid. This can be then crossed with a tetraploid or diploid to produce tetraploid plants again. I believe that Warmke was wrong about triploids and Sam the Skunkman thinks that they are not sterile.

How To Identify Polyploids:
You can identify a polyploid be mere physical appearance and no need to examine the chromosones. Most people have never grown or smoked these real legendary plants. The gangters rap about OG Kush because they had the money to buy this extremely rare connoisseur product. Most product out there is just "wangsta OG".

  • Polyploid Traits:
  • Ducksfoot
  • Four sets of leaves at the nodes
  • Stretched (doubled) flowers
  • Dark green leaves
  • Double bud sites
  • Heavy feeder
  • High water consumption
  • Thick meristem
  • Pistil discoloration (pink pistils under black light)
  • Extreme potency
  • Crooked looking plant providing a Bonsai appearance
  • Larger stomata
  • Thicker leaves
  • NOTE: In order to correctly determine a polyploid level you must extract DNA from the root stain the sample (several methods), put under microscope, count the gametes surrounding the nuclei. You must draw what you see in the microscope and then count. As cannabis has 10 gametes, the number should be 20 for 2n (normal diploid), 40 for 4n (tetraploid), 30 for 3n (triploid), and 60 (hexaploid) for 6n and 80 for 8n (octoploid).
  • Secrets of the Pink Kush - Advanced Knowledge of Polyploids in plants, insects, animals and humans.

If your plant (OG Kush or Chemo or Pink Kush or Chem Dawg or Master Kush) does not have four sets of leaves at the nodes then it is NOT a true polyploid plant and it not the real deal. UBC Chemo is a polyploid and had four leaf internodes. These tetraploid cuttings have different names but are believed to all be the famous polyploids named OG Kush, Pink Kush, Chemdawg, Diesel, Master Kush etc. These are really heavy feeders due to the double size buds and double the number of leaves and buds and THC glands. This plant is very strange and has a chemical smell to it. UBC Chemo, for example, has a Haze and Kush taste due to the Thai sativa and Afghani indica influences. Polyploid plants are almost twice as strong as diploid plants due to the doubling of THC molecules. These plants are extremely difficult to clone and grow very slowly due to the doubling of leaves unless fed correctly. Water consumption is extremely high. If it only has two leaves then it is a normal diploid and will not have the same effect as the three molecule THC of a polyploid. Three leaves does not necessarily mean it is polyploid as it could be just whorled phyllotaxis (just created by stress, removing leaves and the subsequent regeneration of leaves is deformed). Four leaves does mean polyploid. Triploids, being sterile, must be treated to create hexaploids. These hexaploids can then be used to create seeds that will be polyploids.

WARNING: Colchicine is a extremely toxic alkaloid and is highly poisonous. Long term contact can result in white blood cell anomolies. You cannot smoke a plant that has been treated, post germination, with Colchicine. You can only consume the grown out product of the seeds. You can smoke product that was treated prior to germination. Selective breeding is not genetically modified cannabis. This is genetically modified pot as it was altered at the chromosonal level. Never treat a plant with Colchicine as it will become toxic and will eventually revert to diploid with further treatment. You are changing the molecular structure dynamically and none of the product can be consumed. The correct way is to treat the seeds.

G-13 The story on this is that it was created by the University of Mississippi under the aegis of the infamous Carlton Turner. Apparently this cannot be true as U of M never did genetic engineering. If you Google G-13 you will find it is made by Suzuki. Well David Suzuki did create a GM Genetically Modified plant - Chemo. What letter is the 13th letter of the alphabet? M. So we have G-13 or GM for genetically modified and made by Suzuki. Sounds like an great code name to me. I strongly suspect that G-13 is just the Chemo clone and yet another name for it. UPDATE May 11, 2014: David Suzuki denies ever having made that plant and an old friend of mine believes that the Chemo actually came from the University of Washington.

I was offered a cutting of the Chemo plant in Ontario back in the mid 1980's. I had been transferred from B.C. when the recession hit. Several other people from B.C. went to Ontario as well in search of work. We brought out seeds, clones and technology with us. There was a guy who ran a Hydroponics store in Toronto that had the Chemo clone for sale. I cannot remember the price but it was FAR too much money. I did not comprehend the value of this plant at that time and thought he was crazy. Now, after having seen it, I understand.

  • Famous Tetraploids:
  • UBC Chemo
  • OG Kush
  • Master Kush
  • Pink Kush
  • Acapulco Gold (suspected polyploid, long gone)
Tetraploid marijuana plants have a real dank smell. It is really obvious when you know what you are looking for. I do not recommend growing these plants out as they take far too long to vegetate and require more attention, food and water than normal diploid plants. They could be used in a Sea of Green method but you are really relying on the genetics and not on proper plant development of hormones for optimal THC production. The resulting product is not nearly as good as a full grown plant but it is not bad for the Sea of Green method which normally produces mediocre marijuana at best. If you want to try some triploid Diablos Pink Kush seeds then check out the Seeds.

Supposedly the seed company will be at an event in Longmont, CO on 4/20. I'll be going to see about getting some seeds.

c99 -
frost bros, dizzle sold to female seeds
dr greenthumb from original bros grimm
classic is in f2 from grimm
mosca bx1 is from several lines but good
g13 is a joke
high rise at rcmc awesome from grimm
leprechaun orig bros grimm stock
joey weed gone
and the best is bros grimm but now gone

those are what i have in seed and have ran. still have a couple packs of bros grimm from heavens stairway along with roseta stone and the apollo lines. out of what ive listed id say high rise and the dr are the best out now. classic will release his f2 again but not sure when. for a kick ass grimm strain check out tricloud grimm trifecta. is awesome
Some corrections and additions to that C99 sources list:

1) Frost Bros' Dizzle sold their C99 the stock to Peakseeds BC, not Female Seeds.

2
) Dizzle got his C99 stock from Joey Weed, who in turn got it from Bros. Grimm via Heaven's Stairway.

3
) Female Seeds got their C99 from Nirvana because they made "GN C99" for them. Female Seeds got started outsourcing beans for Nirvana and continue doing so to this day. As one of their seed makers, FS is either wholly or partially owned by Gipsy Nirvana.

4
) Peakseeds BC received the C99 line from Frost Bros at the F4 stage, and advanced it three generations to F7 heavily selecting each time. Actually the reason C99 is not yet listed in the PeakseedsBc site is that owner Mike J is not "completely satisfied" to formally offer their C99 for sale yet. In fact, Mike J is asking selected customers like @D_Urbmon to test C99 seeds from three different pollen donors to help find out which father works best. Talk about the difference between a real conscientious breeder like Mike J and a pollen chucker like you know who... the one who puts out two million new "strains" a year. So it's Mike who deserves the capital B for breeder, not the pollen chucker with a knack for marketing and gets a lucky cross once in a while (and you are bound to have some luck good if you make two million random crosses a year). Problem is, the customers are his Guinea pigs, so by the time you heard about one worth growing, chances are it's out of stock and there will be no more of that "strain" because he didn't keep the parents, he's too busy pollen chucking the next batch of "strains." Yes, Bodhi is running a marijuana seeds Ponzi scheme ;)

Conclusion: get the C99 from PeakSeedsBC. Comes from Bros Grimm stock via Joey Weed (widely reputed its time to have the best C99) via Dizzle, and then painstakingly worked by Mike J to this day into the most uniform, selected and stable C99 ever. On top of that it is a bargain at $40 per 10, and it's not feminized (another advantage in my honest opinion, no genetic bottleneck so you can get your holy grail pheno, make seeds for backup and share with friends, cross this homocigous C99 into some killer true F1s, etc.) You still need another reason to order from Peak? Chances are extremely high you will get bonus seeds with your order, and Mike J customer service is legendary.

Ok, still want another reason to order the C99 from PeakSeedsBC? Get this: it may be BETTER than the one Bros Grimm is about to start selling again. How come? Because Bros Grimm re-edition of C99 will not be the same as the original:

I read everything on the site. His release of Cinderella 99 will be a wee bit different from the original P.94 version that was named Cinderella 99. That version was the P.88 male (3rd bx of the cubing/inbreeding process by Mr. Souls formulation as posted on OG years ago.) x Princess Mother.
So if you want the proven original C99, get Peak's! It will be much cheaper than Bros Grimm, too (no price for the new C99, but the original went for $150).

Disclaimer: absolutely not affiliated with Peak Seeds BC or anybody, in fact I leave overseas and poor enough not to be able to afford any seed purchases. So I don't speak on the basis of my experience growing any of these wonderful strains, but on the countless hours spent reading forum posts about them as a vicarious way to be in the game.

You can preorder bros Grimm from seeds here and now starting April 10th. I think they go on sale 4/20. I wouldn't mind scoring some of their Rosetta Stone or Apollo 13.
