Buying CFL's, not online

I was just wondering where I can buy higher watt CFL's (40 - 200W) without ordering online. I've looked at places like Home Depot and lowes, but most just have either lower watts, or the wrong spectrum for growing. Any suggestions?

I just went to Walmart and was looking at the CFL's the highest they had were the 42w, and they were 9 bucks apiece.

Last time I went to Lowe's and looked at the bulb section they had a lot more to choose from, even had HPS bulbs. I can't say for sure if they have higher than 42w CFL's though.

yeah, I've seen a few big ones at walmart too..but I know for a fact some lowes have a fat one that is the right spectrum and is like 60-80watts, which is the 300watt equivalent..but that is only at one of my lowes, the other two in the area do not carry them..keep checkin around, you'll eventually find that store

helmoid.....I am currently using the 3-42w 3000k lights from Lowes, they throw out 2600 lumens a piece and i have two 20w 2700k lights for flowering!! For vegging you might want to buy some lights with high kelvins like 6500k or 5500k to throw in with the 3000k lights. Honestly you dont really need higher watts as long as you have a small area!! I am in a 3x3 corner of a closet with 5 CFLs with a total of 9600 lumens and it is plenty enough for the five lil clones i have, not one being taller than 2 feet and the 2 smallest being baby purple kush clones 8-10 inches tall!! So the watts isnt as much of a deal as the lumens and how you position your lights on and around the plants, CFLs can be put very closely as long as you can put your hand inbetween the plant and the light without it being too hot on your hand its all good, like 2-10 inches away. Im pretty sure the Walmart ones are the same lights just probably different brand. Lowes has a Bigger CFL which i think was around 100 actual watts but i dont remember the kelvins (6500k) on the light, you really dont need it unless you have the area and hook ups. I would recomend buying 6" reflector or bigger (in lighting section in lowes) and just using the hook up part without the reflector with a 2 way splitter and whatever lights u want. The only place your gunna find higher wattage CFL's is gunna be hydro stores/ grow shops.

The 100w daylight Cfls from lowes are 6700k which is the perfect spectrum for Veg. The 100w sunlight Cfls from the 99cents store are 2700k which is the perfect spectrum for flower. I like to use 10 for veg. Thats 1000w of cfl light and only 230 watts of power. They run very cool and are very economical! Then its 600w Hps for flower.

Home Depot sells HPS lights but not the ballast. If you are looking for a higher watt CFL go to a light shop. I got mine at a lighting/electrical store for farely cheap. They do however give you a strange look when ya ask them for the bulbs. All my toher bulbs came from Wal-mart. I told them I was upgradeing to CFL to save money, they cashier just looked and laughed, I guess she knew what was goin on.

Up and growing again with CFL and I'll upload somemore pics of our new setup later.

I dont understand why anyone would look at you in anyway other than congrats for buying cfl bulbs.

They use 1/4 the watts an incandescent bulb uses, which saves energy cost for you, but also for the world. CFLS are the future and I honestly get pissed when I see an incanOLD bulb in fixtures at other places besides my home.

I use the 12w cfls all thru my home and save 30 dollars a month.

Hey that's were I got mine too the dollar store...I've even used those 2700k's to root clones they worked great...I don't think the lumens matters as much as the kelvins...as lumens are only visible to the human eye the plants absorb the light through the different spectrums, at least that's the theory

just found 4 packs of CFLs at Rite Aid today on sale for $.99

I had to laugh at this. I got that same look from the guy at Lowe's. After he helped me w/ CFLs, I asked him for the light sockets that just plugged into the wall. He walked me over there and I grabbed a few of those clip on lights. Then I asked him where to buy the 1-to-2 sockets. Then he chuckled.

surprisingly, though, when I went up to the register with all this AND a bag of potting soil, the cashier didn't even flinch. She must not smoke.

When you go to Home Depot they don't keep the higher wattage cfl's with the other lightbulbs. They are in the isle where they sell the outdoor hps and mh fixtures. At least the ones near me.
