I ve been running a 400w hps for about a week now 24/7 i just happend to be home and saw the light flick off of and went over to see what happend and the buld had a faint orange color not like it burnt out but it wasnt bright at all. I unplugged it and am going to let it cool off since its about 90 F in the room with no aircoolable hood... Does this sound like it just shut off due to high heat or do i need a new bulb now? ive only had it for about a week!

More than likely a bad bulb, if it comes back on it will probably go out again in my experience, return it if you can, and get a new bulb, it should last alot longer than a week.

Your elec. may have blinked off. There is a restart time for hps about 15 min. Kinda like the start time about 5 min. for cold start looks like a sunrise when you cold start.
